Been lurking here for the past couple of months and figured it was time to post. First of all, this is an awesome site with awesome members and cars that make me green with envy. Never knew there were so many beautifully modded Lexuses (or is it Lexi?) out there. Only problem is that the more time I spend here the more I anticipate my bank account balance will be declining.
Anyways, I finally took my parents advice (they own an ls430 & sc430) and traded in my chrysler 300m for a white/saddle sport design with 48k miles. All I have done so far is change the engine and differential oil to synthetic, painted the calipers black, and threw away the drop-in K&N and replaced it with paper. I have some Rotoras and tint waiting for warm weather. Next on the list is correcting the horrid 4x4 stance with DF210s or similar. I put maybe 5,000 miles on my cars per year, so with ~50k on the shocks I am having trouble deciding whether or not to go ahead and replace the shocks as well. Any guess as to how long the existing shocks will last after lowering with DFs on well maintained roads? Can anyone confirm that the SD shocks are in fact KYB GR-2s like I have read a couple of times?
I didn't think anyone would care to see pics of my stock GS so I haven't bothered to take any. Oddly enough, it is actually snowing down here so I'll get some up in a few days.
The stock shocks are, IMO, awful. I recently replaced my springs/struts with KYB GR2s and Tanabe DF210s and am surprised at how much smoother and better the ride is when compared to stock.
MP, i am still on my stock L-tuned struts and they are fine. 36K... and counting.
pesch..., I am lowered on Tein S-Tech w/ our L-tuned struts.. about 10K on them and they are working well.
Well, I guess I should concede that my car had 71000 on the clock so the shocks were certainly passed their better days
Has anyone ever concluded what shocks the OEM SD cars have? I have heard different people say KYBs, L-Tuned, and then just stiffer versions of the non SD GS300 shocks. It would be cool to know.
