IMO:
I prefer the dark grille on darker cars like blue. I think the bright chrome vertical grille slats stand out too much and clash with the horizontal chrome strip that runs around the car.
The dark slats accentuate the softer chrome ring around the grille which also accentuates the chrome strip that runs around the car. Plus it matches the sportiness of the Spectra Blue Mica (color assumption since you did not specify your shade of blue) better then the chrome.
Seems like a lot of DIY chrome grille'ers get tired of its look pretty quick too.
