Default 200k GS4... good idea?

Okay. Im looking at a Lexus, again. after switching to Honda for a few months, ive decided i want another Lexus. However, I dont want another SC300. lol.

SO, while browsing craigslist, i discovered this 1998 GS400 with 197k miles. Im not really afraid of that mileage. my 92 SC had 187k, but I am kind of concerned about how reliable it could be. I can get a 100k powertrain warranty from a company ive used MANY MANY times before for about 1200. Im just wondering if I might need it.

Any ideas?

Heres a link to the car.

thanks!

i see you got a legend type 2 like me also my legened has above 300k
id take the gs400 for that price
looks good to me
see what maintance has been done but seriously it looks maintaned somebody drove it.... drove it and had to maintain it... it may need some some work done already mentioned leather... and just think scratches paint imperfections on black... but id say drive train should be solid it still has orignal wheels that matters alot in my honest opinon run a carfax check with the dealer of whats been done but in the end it will be decent for the price you could end up with worse for more money but less mileage check it out if its not too far

IF its been maintained, id probably go for it.

the issue is, around here, these cars are extremely high priced... IF you can find one. thats why i jumped at this one. I want another lexus, but i do NOT want an ES, and im just not sure i want another sc.

Thanks for the input thou.

btw, the leather interior on a 10yr old car is gonna have some rips, unless its been taken care of... who, besides us car nuts, takes the time to clean and condition their leather on a regular basis?? lol

That's a cheap price....you can tell it's definitely not a babied car. Check Bushings replaced? Starter? Timing Belt?

The car is worth about $5k assuming not a damn thing is wrong with it.... I'd pass personally.... but if you wanna find a 2jz and throw it in... of course only after catastrophic engine failure or something but who knows when that will happen...

hmm... i really dont want to deal with another 2jz. my SC300 kinda made me want a V8. plus they sound so much better. lol.

i cant seem to find any other GS's around here for anything close to what this guy's asking for it. i just dont know. I need to keep the car under 6000, so i can keep the payment under 250/mth. lol
