I have many more plans for the GS, it will be a never ending project. I decided to keep it and put in it the extra money I would otherwise have to spend to buy a new car. The way I see it though, the majority of us on CL are so ahead of the curve, that who cares if we are out numbered by a bunch of honda kids with a ebay'd out GS's. That just makes us look that much better and it just weeds out the competition. They might've stepped up their car game, but their modding game will never change .

The GS's design is classic, and mod'd right it, it looks even better. It has so much potential, as repeatedly shown by many guys here, for speed, performance, and looks. The 2GS is everything in one package. As stated by the infamous 1SICK, "Got to love the GS. Sunday, take pics with model, Monday, race the car, Tuesday, take it to work. Incredible."

this is a great thread so here goes with my thoughts.. when i bought this car there were not many at all in my area of CO in 04. So i did some mods and now i live in an area with an over population of 2gs's (even if most are stock and driven by old minded folks). living in my current area i would have gone with an ls 430 for sure and made it look somewhat vip and clean. i like driving a car that looks outside the norm and a vip ls 430 in annapolis would definitely stand out cuz i think i have only seen 1 in the last 2 years and i'm not even sure if the car is from that area or just passing through.

since they are getting very cheap lately it is a whole new ballgame out there and a whole new group of folks buying them... i def. see a lot of cheaply modded ones around and a few nice ones as well, but i feel like i am being compared to the cheap ones more than the nice ones lately cuz you see more cheap ones driven by more honda minded folks. most folks don't take the time to see the quality and effort someone has put into the car so they just group all of a certain group of individuals together. i feel like i am slipping down the car game latter and def the originality, style, and CLASS car ladder lately by holding on to this 10 year old car.

i see all these new vehicles being sold right out of the box with big chrome rims, grills, body kits, hid bluish lights, even exhaust, suspension, and even deep dish wheels with offsets, right from the dealership and i know they didn't put in time and effort to get that look so it makes me feel like i just gotta bring more to the table the next go round...

I am with you guys on this. I am a new owner and live in an area where there are few GS's rolling around and those that are are the 300 (not knocking the 300, but I am always on the lookout for "my" version ). I have very recently started my main upgrading (as in I am about to go out to the garage and wrap-up my bushing/coliover/wheel install) and the one thing I did not want to do was cheapen the way the car looked or felt with any of my mods.

It would be WAY too easy to get a knock-off set of rims, with the wrong offset no less, and totally kill the lines of the GS. I mean, this vehicle has been around 10+ years now and still looks better than brand new cars.

I remember having a GS in 2000.....times have changed. The funny thing is outside of a Porsche GT3 or something crazy, I haven't just been head over heels for a Lexus or most any car under 100k since the 2GS

The GS is fairly rare around here, so it's still got that bit of exoticness to most people out here. Most people don't seem to realize my GS is 9 years old. We're a little behind the times, there's not many tastefully modded cars and even less people truly modding expensive cars. A well-done car stands out here among all the cheap Ebay taillights and tacky mods.

I've wanted a GS since I had my old ES300 back in 01 or 02 and saw some of the beautiful GS's on this forum, it was way out of my price range then but when it came time to look for a new car this spring I pretty quickly came back to the 2GS. I'd much rather be driving a 99 GS4 than a brand new Kia.

This thread kind of brings me to something I've noticed when I came back to CL recently. I hope nobody takes this personally or anything as I don't mean to offend anybody as this is more an observation than a criticism. As the price of the car has come down the board has gotten much more tolerant of cheap mods like the Ebay headlights and taillights; knockoff wheels and even cut springs. Years ago, the OG's like Manaray ripped into people without mercy if you thought about cutting springs or putting tacky stuff on their car. People still generally discourage it but not with the same vigilance and conviction that made an impression on me years ago. It's a different ballgame now than when the GS was brand new, I know I don't have cash to be doing things up big like some people past and present, but I take alot more pride in my used L-Sportline wheels than I would in some brand new knockoffs. I guess that's the principles I picked up from my time spent here and hope to be able to pass along to the next generation.

I am glad to see alot of members are openeing up .. I do realise that I have a 9 year old car .. but It still makes me smile like the day I bought her ..

I Never felt as if I wanted to sell my car but I am sure everything has its right price .. Looking at alot of ther vehicals I still love the Gs . In order for me to be happy I also bought the 5 series because I loved that body style too .. I wish the gs had more options like radio control in the steering wheel and adjustable eq hiding in stereo .. ect ..

but all in all .. I will hold on to it ..

As for what Kyle Harty has said ... alot of what you have said is true .. alot ..

the ball game has changed and now there is an infest of incorrectly built Gs' , but what can you do .. other than see it happen .

each Og member who still has their car .. They are as nice as when I first signed on the boards ... and always nice to see when they take new pictures .. and update us with what they have done..

I looked at upgrading but to an Ls but who hasnt.. ... My checks arent growing so neither is my thoughts on that ... gotta say thou over all ... this forum gets alot of hits and useful informaton on the car ..

Your turn to vent or share ..
