Default HID Kit Ballast Mount

Hello all,

Just purchased an HID kit from MobileHID, found a DIY for removing the headlight, but was wondering where the ideal place would be for mounting the ballasts.

Anyone have suggestions? I did a search before posting, didn't really yield any answers....

just mount them by the strut towers...that's what I did. Where do you mount for the fog lights? I'm planning on getting hid fogs. is there a different wiring setup.

Mine are mounted On the reinforcement bar behind the front bumper. That way they are hidden and no drillingin the engine bay. You do have to take the front bumper off.

sup louie,

I'm thinking of blacking them out, but I've got the idea of blacking out my green tinted headlights, as well as putting the extra hid bowls I have inside of them.

I sanded and polished your headlights, they came out pretty good. I'll have to get some pics up

DO NOT black out your green tints. Sell them, or trade them and get some cash for a set of non-green tint and black those out. green tints are far too valuable.

as far as mounting the ballasts, i have a 9006 HID conversion and although not the prettiest install, I zip-tied the **** out of them to the radiator core support, just behind the headlight. Have had no problems whatsoever with it yet.

also, you can definitely install an HID kit without removing the front bumper/headlights. It's just a wicked pain in the *** on the driver's side because there's almost no clearance to get the bulb in by hand.

Thanks for the input Jcat, you have a good point about the green tints.

I think I might halt the hid install to black out the chrome housings. Might try baking one today.

Wherever you end up mounting the ballast I would 100% suggest not to use just double sided tape. Make sure you reinforce the tape with tie straps.

Steve

For a cleaner install, I mounted my ballasts under my headlights.

That means I had to remove my front bumper and headlights. I screwed the ballasts to the mount plates that was provided with the kit. Then i drilled a small hole in the body (under the headlights) and mounted the plate....secured tightly...no zip ties.

Its also probably cooler there....away from the engine heat since its NOT located in the engine bay.

If you look at the OEM HID install for the GS....the ballasts are under the headlight housings too.

Good luck with your install.

Pete
