Gs300 for first car?
Awesome first choice but like others have said, get a beater to learn on. Seriously, if I got a GS300 when I was in high school, i wouldn't be driving it now. I learned about oversteer control by driving a turbo rwd Volvo then a Miata. There's no way I'd want to learn or teach myself on a GS.
I used the Volvo in CT and then during the heavy winters of western NY so I know how to drive in snow.
Definitely get a set of snow tires for the GS. You won't regret it.

I had a Camry for my first car which was my sisters and she didn't need it in college. Then after she came back, I drove my Dad's Buick Park Avenue lol and he got a new LX470. Then a few years later when I was around 20 I got the GS. This car was an awesome learning experience for me. Before the GS, I never really worked much on cars much besides oil changes and putting in a stereo system. I had a chance to learn the car very well from the modest beginnings of 220hp to the current 800hp
You get used to the speed and learn control as power increases.
It's an awesome learning experience going from a slow car and moving your way up. I remember I used to drive the Camry like a maniac and I thought it was fast haha. Good thing it was very slow in reality. If I had a fast RWD car like a GS400 from the start, I would of wrecked it and probably not be into cars as I am today. The GS300 was a good learning experience because it started off as being decently fast, but not a seriously fast car. So that was my incentive to start tinkering with the engine.

the GS was my first car and i was 17
i treat this car like a baby and havent gotten into an accident nor have i gotten a ticket yet. sooo if you think you can handle it i say go for it. if you can handle a speedboat than you can handle a GS

hey, if u can afford it then get it. i would say get a old beater i had about 4 honda (89,90,91,95) accords till i got my first Gs. Went back to the honda accord (2003)till i get my next Gs. I mean gettin a Gs 300 is no difference from these kids driving around in STI's and Evo's. Hell, some of these kids got better cars then me, also we need to factor in is that his Generation is a lil different from ours. my first car was $800.00 this was back in 99 when i got my 89 accord. My little brother's friend (who is 18) went through 3 cars since i meet him (03 evo, 06 350z, and current 06 sentra SER V-spec) not sure if he wrecked them but i guess he can't make up his mind
I don't think anyone needs a beater unless you doubt your driving skills or your self control. I have never owned one. At 18 I bought myself a V8 RWD sport coupe. Two years later I got a V8 RWD SUV.
Get what you want if you can afford it. Just give each car the respect it deserves and you will be fine. Any mature 16 year old can handle a GS300 just fine. Just keep the Traction Control turned on.
