Thats great to know how about those four modes of programming. Do you know how to tell about the ECM or ECU with the engine disabling chip of the key. That is what I cannot seem to program.
Thanks in advance Supra_Trd.

TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING
NOTE: The remote keyless entry system is equipped with 2
transmitters, having 2 unique vehicle access codes programmed
into the wireless door lock ECU.
MODES OF REGISTRATION (PROGRAMMING the Remote)
There are 4 registration modes:
Add Mode
Adds a transmitter (remote) without erasing existing transmitter
codes. Four transmitter codes can be registered at one time. If number
of registered codes exceeds 4, previously registered codes are erased
in order, starting with first registered code.
Rewrite Mode
Erases all previousLy registered transmitter codes and
reprogram new transmitters.
Confirmation Mode
Informs user of number of existing transmitter codes already
programmed in system.
Prohibition Mode
Erases all existing registered transmitter codes and cancels
wireless door lock operation. Use this function if transmitter is lost
or stolen.
REGISTRATION OF RECOGNITION CODE
1) To begin programming, remove key from ignition switch.
Ensure driver’s door is open and unlocked, and all other doors are
closed. Insert key into ignition switch, and then remove it.
2) Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: press door
lock switch (the one that controls all the locks) to LOCK position,
and then within one second, press door
lock switch to UNLOCK position. Repeat procedure continuously until
door locks have been locked and unlocked 5 times. Close, and then open
driver’s door.
3) Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: repeat
procedure in step 2), except for closing and opening driver’s door.
Insert key into ignition switch. To enter desired mode, turn ignition
switch to ON position and back to LOCK position (one cycle), within
one second, the specified number of times. See REGISTRATION MODE
SELECTION table below. Remove key from ignition switch. Registration
of confirmation code is complete after door locks cycle. Be sure to
continue as below.
REGISTRATION MODE SELECTION
Mode - - - No. Of Ignition Switch Cycles
Add = 1
Rewrite = 2
Confirmation = 3
Prohibition = 5
4) If any mode, other than confirmation mode is selected, go
to next step. If confirmation mode was selected, door locks will cycle
0-4 times depending on how many transmitter codes are stored in ECU.
Example: two stored codes equals 2 door lock/unlock cycles.
5) Complete the following in 40 seconds or less: if add mode,
rewrite mode or prohibition mode is selected, to confirm proper
initiation, door locks will automatically cycle one time for add mode
(at the end of step 3),
2 times for rewritemode and 5 times for prohibition mode. Press
transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for at least 1.5
seconds, and then within 3 seconds, press any transmitter button for
at least one second.
6) If within 3 seconds, door locks cycle one time, new
transmitter code has been successfully accepted. Go to next step. If
door locks cycle 2 times, new transmitter code was not accepted. To
program an additional transmitter or to make a second attempt, return
to step 5) within 40 seconds.
7) Registration of recognition codes is complete under any of
the following conditions:
* Forty seconds has elapsed since wireless door lock ECU has
responded.
* Driver’s door is closed.
* Key is inserted into ignition key cylinder.
* Four recognition codes are registered at one time.

2003 LS 430 Key programming problem
I just purchased a new key blank from Lexus and had the key cut at the dealer. I have tried the procedures and have had no succes both programming sequence for the remote or for the sequence for the chip to start the car. I have seen a number of different sequences on this board and each is different. The car I am trying to program is a 2003 LS 430 can someone please post specific instructions for programming? Thanks

I did a search on the forum but I didn't find anything that will help me program my new key to the car. Here is my delema, I bought the car 3 months ago and only gotten one key from the old owner. I bought a new key and transponder from ebay, had it cut and I was able to program the remote to unlock and lock the doors. The part I have been having a problem with is the key programming. I don't know if this master key is the fourth of fifth one but is it true that you are limited to the number of keys you can program into the car and i need the ecm reflashed?
1. Insert an already programmed master key into the ignition. Do not turn.
2. Press and release the gas pedal 5 times.
3. Press and release the brake pedal 6 times.
4. Remove the key from the ignition.
5. Insert the new key you want to program into the ignition.
6. Press and release the gas pedal one time.
7. Wait 1 minute. The security light will be blinking for this one minute. When it stops blinking your key is programmed. To end programming step on brake one time.
I was able to go through step 6. Step 7, the light just keeps on flashing and never stops? What does this mean?
Thanks in advance your newb club member

Hi Ed,
Here are the steps to program your key and remote for your 1998 GS400. It is the same as what you have down.
It seems like the seller of your car filled in the door key holes and you now will need the remote Master key to get into the car. The Valet key has now remote functions and is able to open only the car door and start the car. Valet key can't open the glove box, gas cap lock and trunk. You defiantly have the Master key if it has the remote function. Let me know how it goes. You may have to speed up the procedure to get it to work. It took me 2-3 times to get my key programmed. I think the time limit is about 30 seconds. DanozLS430..
Key Programming 1.
NOTE: Look for your security light. This light will guide you during the programming procedure. The security light will go off at Step 1. It will remain off until Step 6. The security light will come on and start to blink after Step 6 until the key is programmed. If the security light comes on after Step 4 STOP the procedure and start over again.
If you perform this procedure too slowly your car will not go into programming mode. If you can not get your car to go into programming mode make sure you are using a master key and not a valet key. If you have a master key then you will probably need to perform this procedure more quickly.
Remote Programming 1. Close and lock all doors. Unlock and open drivers door.
2. Put key into ignition and remove. Do not turn it on.
3. Using the electric lock switch. Lock and unlock 5 times. (Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock)
4. Close and open drivers door.
5. Using the electric lock switch. Lock and unlock 5 times. (Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock, Lock, Unlock)
6. Put key into ignition. Turn to "ON" , turn off and remove.
7. You will see the door locks cycle by themselves.
If the door locks do not cycle (lock and unlock) by themselves then the car isn’t in programming mode and you must start over.
8. On the remote, press and hold the LOCK and the UNLOCK button at the same time for no more than 2 seconds.
9. On the remote, press the LOCK button for no more than 1 second.
AT THIS POINT, the locks should cycle by themselves ONE time. This means the procedure was accepted.
IF the locks cycle twice it has failed.
The most common reason for programming failure is because the car didn’t receive a good signal from the remote. To fix this problem try these tips. 1) Stand outside of the car while you are performing steps 8 and 9. 2) Don’t hold the remote buttons down as long.
As long as the car is still in programming mode you can keep trying steps 8 and 9 until you complete the programming. If you wait too long and the car exits the programming mode then you must start over.
After you get the remote to program then continue on with step 10.
10. Close and open door to end programming procedure

just order my 2nd master key from Sewell
1/23/2008 - got the key from Sewell. (the plastic shell looks kinda cheap, tho)
followed the programming instructions and it worked.
(took me about 10 minutes)
i think you need to close the door at step 9.
anyhow, everything is working now. Thanks! CL
the instruction seems pretty straight-foward. (Thanks to fellow CL members!)
i will post my result after the key arrive.

I ordered a master remote key from sewell a couple weeks ago. I followed the instructions in this thread to program both the key and the remote. I got the key programed the second try to start the car. I've been trying to program the remote now for three days. The instructions in this thread are correct. I called JM Lexus and spoke with a service tech and he told me the same instructions with the exception of using the manual lock instead of the power lock but both work witch ever way you want to do it. I couldnt get my car to except the remote for anything. I took the car to the dealer because on the phone the tech told me he could program the remote using the scan tool if nothing else would work. To make a long story short they couldnt get it programed either. They told me that because my rear two door actuators were not working they couldnt program it. I went and bought the actuators yesterday and installed them both. Like anything else the first one took me forever to figure out but the second one went in like butter. After all that. $180 for the key and $105 a piece for the actuators I still can't get my car to except this remote. The only thing left is it has to be a problem with the remote I got from Sewell. I can deffently get my car in program mode to program the remote. It's just that it wont except the remote, the door locks cycle twice every time. I tryed everything you could think of too, like standing in front with the hood popped or by the trunk... I put the remote every where and still not working. The FCC I.D. # on the back of the key is HYQ1512V. Maybe they sent me the wrong key, or the remote is defective.

hey guys, i've been following the instructions provided and have been unable to program my key either. Now I think there is something wrong with the security light. It's always blinking when door is unlocked (key not in ignition), and solid red when doors are locked (key not in ignition). Do I need to reset the security light? Is there somebody from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) who has done this who might be able to help me in person? Thanks !
