Thanks for the nice words and info on parts. I agree that BMW owners are paying for repairs....that is why my 540 sport was stock. The damn alternator cost $1000 just to replace. I wanted to do it myself but after reading the boards at my BMW site, everyone said it was possible but a pain in the a. BMW thought is would be a great idea to have a liquid cooled alternator on the 01 and up. If I had a 00 it would have been a quarter of that because I would have done it myself.
My GS with 50K more miles then my ex-BMW cost a fraction of the price for admission and with the expected low cost to run, I will have the $ to drop on the car. I could not compare both cars side by side but I personally like the GS more. I like the power of the V8. Looking at some 0-60 times on the web, the BMW was 0.1 second faster, what is that...a 1/2 of a bumper?? THe best part is I already put 1000 miles on it and it feels like it will go for years. I really dont think this car will ever leave me stranded, can not say the same thing about the BMW.
Rims will be first. After a quick search here it seems I will then have to drop the car to have the stance look right.....I can already hear the money flying out of the wallet!!!!
I made my first mod and actually really like it. I puchased chrome OEM's off of this site from dat*niz. Great transaction and everything was as he explained. Long story short, we went to Orlando after T-giving to do the Disney thing with the kids. We drove (hated that!) because we could not find any reasonable flights and it was the busiest time to travel so I guess we did not have to deal with delays. The good thing is dat*niz lived in Orlando and I had the SUV. A 5 minute stop on the way home and 4 pristine chrome OEM 17"s were in the back. The tires are brand new and the car has lost some of that softness now. I am not throwing it around like the 540 sport, but it definitely firmed her up a bit.
Lowering is next on the list but that will not be for a while. Until then I am shocked how much I like the 17 OEM's The chrome really sets off the car nice. Now with the chrome rims I think a DIY chrome grill is in order. Maybe a "holiday" project.
Sorry about the dirty pics. I actually have had the rims on for a few weeks but the weather here in the NE has been horrible. I sprayed her off yesterday just to get the first layer of dirt off. I can not wait to get a full detail done over the holdiays if the weather holds out.
Just wanted to intro myself. I bought a GS400 from my local Lexus dealer. I was not necessarily in the market for a GS but have a friend at the dealership and I said if you ever get something really clean and not too expensive let me know.
Cobra2top, first off congrats on your Lex! Clean and classy! I'm looking at a GS430 at a South NJ dlr. Where does your friend work? Maybe your friend could work some #s for me? Thanks!
the gs400 are one bad *** car for the money, add a torque converter, you will be 0.5 faster 0-60 and quarter mile times..if you want a little speed thats the next mod u should do, or suspension some nice tein coilovers- oh yea really clean car! congrats
Thanks! Yeah, every day I love the car more!!! Actually tonight I want to the Flyers game against Toronto (Flyers win!!) and Wachovia Center and Lexus have a GREAT deal! If you are the proud owner of a Lexus, you get priority parking! I parked right in front of the building! The area was coned off and when I pointed out to one of the guys I had a Lexus, they stopped the traffic and guided me into a front spot!!
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My friend has a pic, I will add it when he emails it to me.
friggin' sweet ride man.....gotta love elderly people! But please go at least 19's as this large car looks better with bigger wheels!(mu opinion of course)
Glad you are happy with your new car. I planned on keeping my GS400 stock... Well I stuck to that plan for about a month. Looks good with the OEM chrome wheels. Keep us posted!
