It's a common problem on the 2nd gen GS.

It's your door lock actuator.

$300 from the dealer. Carson Toyota might be able to hook it up for $205 shipped. The price is for one.

I actually rebuilt mine, but I didn't make a DIY because some parts are too fragile to be handled.

It's a common thing and has been discused many times. If you use the search feature you may also come up with a DIY.

Yep, as several others have mentioned, a common 2nd GS ailment. My mechanic tells me its aggravated by heat. Was your car parked in the sun when the trouble started?

I just started to have the same problem, I was frustrated when i could not lock my door and leave, it took me about 10 min to finally be able to walk away from my car at work, because i couldn't lock it, so according to the posts, i need to get an actuator, and carson has it for 205 i guess, so im gonna have to get it from there today, cause i cant drive around like that, but the problem is totally random for me, some times it will work and some times it wont.

Yep, there's a nice diy floating around on how to replace the part. Unfortunately, you have to totally gut your door, it took me about 4 hours.

wow, it took me 15 min to take out the door actuator, if you leave the window down it will take you 4 hrs, but if the window is up, it will only take 30 min MAX,
so i just ordered mine from luis at Carson, I hope and REALLY HOPE it will be in tomorrow so i can start driving my car, i never noticed how much of a handicap im without a car, WOW,

Yeesh, that's fast! post a DIY! My window was not up or down, it was laying on the garage floor....had to take it off to get to the actuator.

here is the post that i used for reference, it was quite simple,
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...ctuator&page=3
all i did was get the tools ready before i started,
Phillips
screwdriver
torx T-30
and needle nose pliers

First take out the screws on the bottom, i think theres like 5 then the one under the arm rest on the door, on top of the compartment, its a gold screw,
then the one in the A/C vent on the door
then the one behind the face plate where the door lever is to open and close the door.
once those are done, pop open the door its clipped on by 3 clips, green in color, then the door cover will be in your hand then undo the 3 wire harnesses,
one is for the window mod, other is for door locking, third is for the courtesy light on the door,
now the panel is off, you can easily remove the actuator

use the T-30 undo the 3 screws next to the hinge lock, then undo the torx screw next to the window track, and now the actuator is loose. now undo the door handle, where you open the door from the outside with the 3 screws that are holding it in place, and whala, its free, now undoo the 2 bars that connect to the door handle, and undo the 2 cables connected to the release lever on the panel,

now the important part is to remove the screw on the window track that is right above the actuator so that it may slide out, now once you have it out, put that rail back on so you wont loose the positioning, and thats it
15 min later you'll have the actuator in your hand.

That's the one I used too...I'm just a lot slower, but you still have to uninstall a lot of parts to get to it. I have a new respect for all the moving parts in the driver's side door. lol

I guess time does not matter. If you were able to get the job done then is all good. Well I wanted to do a rebuild, but then i decided that this was an important piece and that i don't want to get stuck some where where i cant lock my doors, so i just opted to get a new one.
