The question is half the answer, and your question doesn't tell us much.

Please be more descriptive. What year are you referring to? There are 3 different generations among the GS years 98-05.

if its the newer ones, I would want one. But if its the 98-00, I'd skip it and get an aftermarket. It's been almost a decade since those came out (I think my friend's 96 Crown Majesta even had the same nav), and technology advanced a lot since.

I got an 03 GS 430 do you have the 300 or 430? I got the stock Navi in mine too but honestly I've seen those Garmin aftermarket ones and I like the ease of use on those better. I like the fact that the screen controls the A/C, stereo, etc. but its a nightmare to think what happens if that ever goes out on me. I'll probably be looking at $2K to $2500 to replace the whole unit if I ever have to huh?

My friend,
If you haven't gotten the car yet, here is my advice.
Get a car without stock nav, brace yourself as your wallet will become lighter by buying a nice quality aftermarket nav like the pioneer D1, D2 or D3 or any of the Eclipse AVN series(newer ones are the bomb, i personally have the AVN 5496), take sometime again to brace yourself some more because i will suggest you upgrade your speakers and sub too to complement the new unit.
Finally, study hard on CL by asking questions(it never hurts to ask questions as long as they are not foolish questions) and using the search function and install it your self OR brace yourself again while you find a nice reputable quality shop to install it for you.
Make sure you use quality wires cables etc so you save yourself the stress and time of replacing the cheap ones and trust me, you will enjoy the upgrade.
everything i just talked about above should run you around $2000 or less if you shop around wisely.
OTHERWISE,
get a car with the stock nav and feel happy cos it is also great.
Good luck either way. And remember do it right the first time and enjoy it forever.
And remember to post some pics no matter which route you take.

I have the 98 with stock nav. it's a mixed bag, iactually like the garmin 2610 I have in my van MUCH better. I would suggest getting one without because you ar so limited to upgrading etc. DVD or HDD you still dish out about 300 bucks for an upgrade. Mine is always getting lost and doesn't always have a link to the satellite and if I had known I would have bought the one without and get an eclipse AVN series.

i like my stock navi.... and i have a good sense of direction so i just used the navi for the gist of the location.

plus its a better looking dash than the non-navi equiped cars.

I have an 02 430 with Nav/ML. I like it but you must make sure you are using the right scale. You can drive faster then the Nav can show your location. I am still using the 02 version, have not upgraded yet. Don't know if it is worth the $$? 2 things that are annoying: 1. Can't change destination unless you are stopped(or moving really slow)(hack would fix). 2.Address not listed(newer version might fix?) or multi listings for same. I use Mapquest on my computer to see a map of the area to get nearby streets to make sure I'm in the right county. It would also help if you can gauge distances well as when the lady says turn right in 300 feet there might be another right near where you should turn but at that distance you can't read the steet signs.
