cooling problems
so it was about 100 in corona ca,wife was driving on a freeway in bumper to bumper traffic when she heard a pop followed by steam from the engine,she pulled over right away and called me.when i arrived the top hose had popped off and lost most of it's coolant,connected hose and filled with water,thats all i had at the time,i drove it straight home about 5 miles watching my temp rise over where it normaly would be,before i made it home i could see steam.opened the hood and saw a large crack on the top of my radaitor.my question is what would cause the hose to pop off like that and crack my radaitor?i have ordered a radaitor.could this be caused by the radaitor cap not working correctly?car has 160500 miles,water pump,thermostat, replaced with timming belt at 140000 miles.thanks

I have seen many a time at my uncle's shop with a popped radiator cap as BillGS3 mentioned. More often the case is with a sticking or bad water pump, even though replaced not too long ago.
Also would suggest adding a bottle of Redline WaterWetter to your coolant/water mix.

i did not notice any leak up until the steam appeared'radaitor arrived today,by the way you can pick one up from ebay for $133 plus 35 for shipping made by kyco.looks like it is well built.hope there is no head damage,should have it in this weekend.
