Default GS mirror questions..

The passenger mirror glass on my 01 GS430 popped off a few months back, thought nothing of it and popped it back into place. Months later on the expressway, the glass piece popped off and swung into the window (nearly shattering the window).

I've been looking for replacements but it seems easier to replace the entire assembly (mirror, etc). I found an 00 GS300 complete passenger mirror, would this fit on my 430 as well as the mirror tilt being compatible?

thanks in advance.

I called Carson and apparently the 300 and 430 have different part numbers, however, there are several sites that advertise the 300/430 are compatible (any ideas?).

any input would be appreciated. thanks!

I wouldn't see why they WOULDN'T be compatible... but, I have heard of stranger things. I'm not proficient on the GS430... does it have motor for folding or is it just the standard electric tilt? The only thing I could really see being different would be a different tilt motor, which could lead to having a different pin set-up for the connector. Otherwise, everything should be the same as they are the same shape and size.

I came across a lens replacement site, however, upon closer inspection I noticed there is a pin connector inside the mirror, I assume this connects to the tilt mechanism/motor? What would be my best option at this point?

thanks.

The connector looks kinda big, but if it plugs into the back of the mirror glass, it might be for the mirror heater.

That conector is for your electrochromatic and heated mirror. The mirror glasses are the same. You should be able to swapp the glass out alone. By the looks of the pics there is nothing wrong with the housing. You have to be sure to slide the top in snuggly and clip the bottom in.

I appreciate response. I spoke with a parts recycler on the boards, he claimed the mirror needed to be scrapped and replaced. Carson quoted me $250+ for the glass alone. At this price, it would far from benefit me and would be better off picking up a second hand unit.

There are two mirrors lenses available (one that is convex, other is not) at a negligible difference. Which lenses would you recommend at this point, I'm assuming this 'connector' would not plug into the aftermarket lense?

thanks.

It looks like they give you the option of the "objects in mirror" I don't know about the wiring, it says these are "fit over" mirrors?

I called and they claimed the part was remanufactured (with OE toyota/lexus parts). There are two different sizes (7-3/8 and 7-1/16) - I found an OE GS430 mirror with a damaged housing for $100.

My main concern would be wiring and the clips (if any) provided with the replacement glass. I would rather order a new glass for $45 versus paying $100 for a 430 mirror that is completely useless other then the glass (which could have been bought for less then half).

any ideas? has anyone used these? sheesh.

thanks.

I'm told that the GS 430 and 300 mirrors are NOT compatible; someone I know bought a 430 drivers mirror for his 300 and it doesn't fit.

Does anyone have pix of a drivers mirror replacement?
