Uh this is a 3 year old thread ? I assume you used search function for needing this swap? AWESOME!

and no they are not compatible. I did this same swap. The 3 bolt mounting pattern does not fit and they both have different wire harnesses. However what I DID do to make it fit... I removed both mirrors off their mounts and they swapped just fine, but if you look underneath, the 98-00 mirror has exposed bolts while the 01+ has a cover on there, its a minor cosmetic thing, but it may bug Next, the wire harness. I cut both of them and and iirc you'll notice there are 6 wires 3 solids 3 striped, 4 of the wires are the same color on both mirrors (slightly lighter on one harness to the other, but nonetheless the same) so splicing them with the new harness is no problem, the other 2 were different color, but due to process of elimination, theres only one place left to go I did all that, heat shrunk them and taped them and mirror works just fine

I can tell you that 01-05 GS can use the 98-00 mirrors. When producing the 01-05 LED mirror covers I had to source a set of mirrors, and the only set that I could find at a decent price was a set from a 99.

They bolt up just the same, and the plug is also the same, so its a straight swap.

On thing that I have found strange is the price for used 98-05 GS complete mirror assemblies compared to a complete assemblies from 06+ GS's. You can get a 06+ for around $75 with mirror vs the 98-05 they run around $200-250 per side.

Then explain to me why I just wrote a complete write up on the swap? When I did it, the bolt holes DID NOT match up and neither did the wire harness.

That is strange, I can tell you that I have an 04, and the mirrors that I have on my car right now are from a 99, or at least that what I was told by the gentleman that I got them from. Maybe that they could be from a 00 I don't know, but I can tell you that they are the one piece mirror shell, and all I did was unbolt mine and bolted these right in, and just plugged them in with out having to do any modifications. Hell even the memory function works.

Easy way to find out If you look under the mirror itself where it swings, can you see the 3 bolts that attach the mirror to the base, or does it look smooth? The 01+ model is smooth cause it has a cap over the bolts while the 98-00 the bolts are exposed and ugly.

nathaniel,my 2001 gs430 has the bolts exposed, no caps in either side of the mirrors...i just put my mirror shell i bought from CLT on last night. its possible someone has removed the caps and never put them back

although nathaniel i have ALSO been told that the 2001+ WILL take the 1998-2000 mirrors as when the 1998-2000 side marker shells came out people were explaining how to "downgrade" to get them to work and said you would just have to use the whole 1998-2000 mirror and it would plug up/bolt fine BUT i will tell you both i dont know this for a fact just what i read

david, your DIY for the mirrors IS on hold as i may have burned up my passenger door ecu, im having a little issue i cant seem to get resolved that i created on accident. i will make a post bout it l8r if after i search, i cant find anything

that's what the bottom of my 2001 looks like also, less someone removed the caps and didn't replace them or someone swapped my mirrors out before i got the car, which IS possible my car was wrecked before i got it. just not sure if it included the mirrors
