my '00 GS300 Sport with something like 100k miles is having a bad intermittant splutter.
It's like a bad miss really. You would be driving along and it loses a lot of power and the smooth, quiet engine starts making a flug-flug-flug-flug-flug sound with matching vibration. If you pull over it idles in the same way.
It's worse at different times, Sometimes it's a mild annoyance, other times the car will barely accelerate and definitely not uphill.
Do these cars still have classic distributor caps? This would be my guess- or ignition leads maybe?
My local Lexus main dealer had this car and claimed they'd fixed it with new spark plugs (not flugs!) for €300. I picked it up at 5pm on that day, and it was no better. I about-faced but the foreman was gone home, so I left it again and the next day when He saw it, he said it was perfect. It runs perfectly more often than not now, but it is still not right.
does it throw any codes out? i think its your coilpacks did you get them checked out? one my friends was having the same problem one of the coilpacks was bad, i think water went in or somthing ...its a easy fix hope this helps
it turned out to be a torn insulation shield on the coilpack so it was arcing terribly. We bodged a quick solution but a replacement is only a few quid...
