Default Headlight sometimes works

I have 98 GS. Tonight I went to the store, both headlights working fine. I get back in the car and the driver's headlight is out. I tinker around a little by turning my lights on and off manually only to find that only SOMETIMES my driver's headlight will work. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, they are stock headlights.

Are they HID's or just halogens? If HID then your ballast 'might' be on the way out. If you have halogens it could possibly be a bad relay. Or it could be something as simple as loose wires.

Also, check the bulbs (swap out the good side and install it on the bad side and see if there is any change) because I had the same problem with my HID's about 2 years ago and the dealer kept telling me it was the bulb. I always thought that if the bulb was bad it wouldn't even turn on...not so with HID technology. My driver's side would go on and 20 secs. later go out; I would turn them off and back on again and the same results occurred! I replaced both (because you have to match both sides obviously) for around $200.00. If it is the bulb do NOT just buy one and try to match the Kelvin on the other side (ex. 4300, 6000 etc.). The new one WILL look brighter because as HID's get old they lose their brightness and start to turn more purple/bluish than from the original color.

I have Halogens and I am going to replace the bulb but I think the problem lies with something in the relay or possibly in the light switch.

I have Phillips bulb if that helps anybody figure this out, lol.

GS430's had HID as standard equiptment. All other GS300/400 the HID's were optional.
