Post Speedsensor gon bad?

The speedo on my Brothers GS would work then out of nowhere it sits on Omph while driving on the hwy. Our question is where is the speed sensor located on the car, and also what is a ballpark figure to replace this part?

Thanks in advance.

Speed sensors are usually located near each wheel themselves, my good friend Salimshah and I were talking about this on the RX300 here (with photos), https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=285023

I did notice a little pickup after I cleaned them off with carb cleaner.

a bad speed sensor will throw a vsv code, since you did not mention the light was on led me to beleive the instrument cluster itself was at fault. where ever you go if they have a lexus scan tool they can verify if the speed sensor is bad.

shawnjohn9,

You are right. The cluster is usually the issue on this one.

I guess on the Lexus the speed sensors are near the ABS right?

On the Supra (and other Toyota's) there's usually a gear driven piece that goes into the tranny.

The check light actually came on after a while, and the speedo is stuck. Can't seem to locate the sensor. Isn't it usally on the tranny?

The speed sensor is located on the tranny. There are also ABS wheel speed sensors on each wheel. The ecu relies primarily on the speed sensor on the tranny. I'm not sure if it reverts to the ABS sensors or not if the sensor on the tranny fails.
