Default speedo needle wont pass 40mph

My 2007 gs350 is acting up lately, I was on freeway doing around 70mph but speed needle only pointed at 40mph on the gause. Could it be speed sensor?

A bad speed sensor would give you an engine light. It might be the gauge cluster itself. When you first turn the car on and it does the self test does it go all the was to max speed then go down to normal?

i dont think 3GS does a test, it just goes to whatever speed/rpm the car is at.

Ok I see what you mean after watching a video. If you have access to a good scanner you can see if the car will read past 40 mph. I did some research and it could be either output speed sensor, abs sensors one or more or the cluster itself.

No, the self test doesn't go all the way.

Hi, Tanin Auto here. If you would like to send the cluster in to us, we can run a diagnostic on it to see if it is repairable. If it is not, we do also help locate a new cluster and program the correct miles for you. The link to the Gauge cluster and speedometer diagnostics service is here:

Let us know if you have any other questions at all. We are always happy to help in any way we can!
