Let me just say that a GS modded won't have the total steering feel of the M5. He might enjoy the V-8 sound more as the E34 is a I-6. They are similar in size with the GS being roomier.

He would have to go all out, coilovers, TOms/TRD braces, to be happy.

Or if he likes the I-6 configuration, maybe turbo a GS 300.

Good luck, I love the E34 M5.

If KKelly sees this, he can help, he has a modded E34 M5.

::edit:: that video is of the new s55 and the new m5, the ones i saw where the e39 m5 vs an e55 but like i said results where the same. M5 by just a touch

back on topic, comparing a purpose built factory car with one that has to be heavily after market modified to keep up isn't something i would do. yes you can probably with a good bit of F/I get a GS to run with a stock M or AMG car but what happens when the guy in the M5 goes down to AA in Miami says he got beat by a (fill in the blank) and has them build it up or just goes to the BMW dealer and has them but a full Dinan package supercharger and all on it? no offense to any GS super lovers but if your buddy likes the old e34 M5 i'd just move up to an e39 M5.

First, what's that olden time M5 recording for 60mph times? The following site says 6.5s for a stocker (http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html), so take a few tenths off for the mods and he's probably at 6s. The GS430 is already in the ballpark, if not faster. Yes, I know the GS can't hold a candle to an M5 in terms of handling...even if it's a dinosaur M5.

As we all well know, the IS350 @ 4.9s to 60mph is damn impressive. It should float your friend's boat quite nicely thank you very much. I also like the idea of waiting on the soon to be released GS460, but it's going to be another $15K on top of the already $45K for the IS. Has a budget been mentioned?

As for the AMG, aren't they unreliable? Either way, it certainly looks hot and runs like stink, but it's going to be just as expensive (or even more if it's unreliable) to fix than his current situation.

Off topic, how about the SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee that makes 60mph disappear in a mind numbing 4.4s?! Message to Lexus: hot rod the GX or RX ala ISF and IS500.
