Question ABS/VSC lights on after work

I was hoping someone might have a quick suggestion so I thought I'd post this up before taking it anywhere else.

My friendly mechanic installed new lower ball joints, tie rods, Daizen bushings, Tanabe NF springs and finally a new set of L-Sportline 20" wheels this weekend for me. It's getting an alignment right now. The biggest issue is the ABS/VSC lights are on now. He's concerned there is something else we have to replace to 'right' everything but I can't find anything in the search.

He said the error code reads "right front speed sensor". Does that pretty much put it in black and white for us (i.e., replace that sensor) or is there something else for us to check for that is feeding that sensor bad info? How much for that thing?

Thanks in advance..

the mechanic accidentally damaged the sensor wire. if he's lucky enough to see the tear it may be fixable, otherwise you need a new sensor. he should be responsible.

That was my first guess with the ABS sensor because of the work done. Thank a LOT for the heads up, D. I did some searching and found this sensor repair article (http://projectgs.com/diy/SuspBrake/ABSVSC/index.htm) by Jeff. I didn't know you could repair it. I'll keep you posted.

Pics coming soon I hope! I get to see 'er for the first time in two days in a little bit.

I just fixed mine, its probably the abs sensor, it's not hard to damage the wire, I didn't want to replace mine since they are around 175-250 a sensor. So instead (and with the help of jefftsai's writeup), I just repaired them. Lights are off now, works great. Saved 500 bucks for new sensors.

Basically you just need to remove the sensors, test the wires with a multimeter to see if it is broken, should be reading around 1.66k+ ohms, if it isn't, you look for any flat spot or obvious tears and just cut and solder back together.

Yep, I installed my front TRD sway bar upside down!

It severed both of the ABS sensor/VSS cables on both front wheels. The dealer wanted $250 per sensor!!! I wasn't about to hand over $500 to replace two sensors in perfect working order. Good thing the damage on mine was easy to spot. If your case, the wiring was ripped at the base of the sensor that might be much tougher to fix. Not impossible, but just a little harder. Okay, quite a bit harder

The coolest part about this ordeal was that when it came back from the alignment shop the lights went away. The only thing we could guess was perhaps the steering sensor because the steering wheel was off a few inches from center before the alignment. Perhaps something was loose before the wheel change again though. Either way it's all good! Thank you all for the comments again.
