Yep, thats it. I had to disconnect mine a few times when I took off the bumper reinforcement bar when I was mounting my intercooler. I forgot to plug it in one time and I got a "--F" in the display

it looks like the thermometer is attached by a clip; so, i guess you just pry it off???

also, how much would a new one of those cost? my outside temp has been stuck at 38*F for the past two-three days and its definitely been colder than that in NY.

Yeah, just pry it off. I think I used a pair of pliers and yanked it off. Also, it's on the reinforcement bar and not the bumper cover. You have to take off the bumper to get to it. That diagram from the service manual looks like it's on the bumper cover, but it's not. I'm not sure how much they cost, and it's probably not a common item to replace since the failure rate is probably pretty low. Check to see if the wires and connectors are 100% seated first. Maybe a bad connection is causing some bad readings?

wow... removing the bumper is quite a process... i just read the DIY post for removing it at http://lexusmodz.netfirms.com/... is there any way to access the thermometer (temp sensor) without removing the bumper?? maybe from the opening between the bumper and the radiator?

also, where does the temp sensor connect to?? i recently just installed hids and was wondering if i could've knocked anything loose in the process.

thanks!

The temp sensor is in the front near the radiator, you do not have to remove the bumper.

Hm, I had my bumper off the car so I can't really say for sure. It seemed like it would be very very hard to reach unless the bumper was off. It looked like to me that you would need to take off the bumper to get enough clearance to remove the sensor. Unless you have some SMALL hands that can fit thru those small grille holes on the bumper. A third idea might be to remove that big plastic cover under the engine and reach the sensor from the bottom?

jeff...

do u remember which side the wiring for the sensor went to? either the driver side or passenger side? and where it ends?

this is so weird... i would never expect the temp sensor to go bad... i guess it is an old car... 1999.
