quick question on intake

Default quick question on intake

if i get a K&N intake..will my gas miles go down?

i know i know..if i am worried about gas..why did i get a gs400 in the first price right?..but im just curious....thanks

In theory air intakes are supposed to give you better gas mileage, but it really depends on how you drive. Driving hard with an air intake you will get worse gas mileage than with the stock, and having a gs400 i would bet you are interested in getting performance out of this air intake. I drive pretty hard and my gas mileage around town and highway averaged is 17.4 mpg.

Is it really difficult to install an aftermarket intake kit? (K and N) Is it a direct bolt on? What about the O2 sensor?

air intakes are easy to install, you just need a decent set of tools. the o2 sensor just gets bolted into the new shaft of the air intake.

I won't need any specific tools will I? I have a basic set of mechanic tools, will that be enough?

Most definitally a basic set will be enough. I think all i needed was a screw driver, and a 10mm socket with a couple extender attachments. Pretty easy job. Took me 20 mins tops.

Should be enough with a basic set.

I averaged 23.6 on the highway or very close to that before my intake with stock 16s. I averaged 23.2 on the way back from California with an intake and 19s.

However, all intakes may not be the same. Some might do better and some might do worse. My guess is that the only major reason your gas mileage would go down is because you'll be trying to "hot rod" more or test it it out with a little fast and furious action.

your o2 sensor has nothing to do with intake, the maf sensor is in the intake. k&N has a full step by step sheet with pics that will guide you with the install.
tools needed is very minimal

if you'r upgrading the intake to save gas, just leave the car stock and foot light
