Carson LED Tailights Question
I recieved my tailights this afternoon and promptly took them out of the box to check them out. I noticed that one of the tailights appears to have something loose within what I believe is the resistor box while the otherone does not. Do anyone recal if theirs did the same? I called Carson but Luis was out sick today. I thought I would ask before I ask him about it.
Thanks,
Nick

So you two both had what sounds like a loose screw rattling around within what appears to be a resistor box that is screwed down with two gold phillips screws?

Ok, I just talked to Luis and they believe that is is a small piece of glue used to seal up this particular box that has broken off and is now loose in the box. No biggie.
for Luis and Carson.
so all they did was added resistor box in the lights for the second batch?
when you get a chance after some normal usage, you willing to check the back of the lights to see if anything is starting to melt?

I am not 100% sure it is a resistor pack. It appears that it is. There is also what appears to be reflective heat tape on the plastic surrounding the resistor pack.
I purchased my lamps back in July and I had the same issue with the rattling.. I took them back the following week for an exchange.. I've been to Carson Toyota 3-4 times to check new shipments of the lamps and still not been able to get a set that I am content with... In total, I have checked about 7-8 new taillamps and they all have the rattle.. To me, this is a big issue.. Who really knows how long these led wiring setup lasts?.. Other issues I have with them are the cheap light sockets that can strip easily, minor yet noticable scratches, and the seal glue dripping inside (not all, some)... I don't think the quality is there... I didn't even take any of the lamps that they offered me.. I asked for a refund and still waiting for them to figure out what they are going to do... Personally, I like Carson Toyota.. They have good prices and excellent sevice.. I don't blame them at all for these flawed tail lamps.. All I can say is that I have been waiting patiently for the past 3 months for them to refund my money.. Steve is the only one that can authorize refunds, but sad to say, he is going through cancer treatments... I hope he gets well and is clear of cancer... I know how hard that must be.. My brother, John, passed away last year from cancer..
I am in the same boat as you. I talked with Luis yesterday and I told him to be painfully honest, I am not happy with the quality of these in the least bit. He said he is going to talk to his manager (which from what I gather is Steve) and let me know of monday what they can do. I have had nothing but spectacular service from Carson and I am confident that they will resolve this. I even offer to just trade up to a set of OEM 01+ tailights just so they don't have to mess with a refund. I'll post up early next week with the outcome of this. Personally, I think for $450 these should be OEM quality.

This "ONE" new change appears to affect the quality in several ways.
1. Rattling
2. Glue marks
3. If the light vendor is retrofitting the 1st gen lights with the resistor set, then damage, glue, shoddy workmanship, scratches, etc. may be the result and it explains what is happening.
As some of you know I did an extensive review on these tails and the findings were favorable. I believe we have heard of NO instances of this rattle/glue issue on the first Gen. batch of tails that were ordered & shipped MONTHS ago.
This information should attest to the likelihood that this NEW issue is directly related to the resistor retrofit. The fact that someone can go through 7 or 8 boxes of lights and not find a GOOD one, technically could point to an inherent flaw in the retrofit / installation of these resistors.
I would strongly suggest that Luis reject the whole batch and let the vendor take care of the problem. Trying to sort out "good" versus "bad" is not going to solve anything. The resistor could come loose later after the product is shipped. I think dealing with returns with customers is more of a headache than it would be to deal the issue directly with the supplier to make sure they address how to eliminate the possibility of problems in the future.
Hopefully Luis and Steve can resolve this resistor issue with the supplier.
I feel sorry if someone bought these units from E-bay? They might not get taken care of as well as we know Steve and Luis will.
