Default Drag launch question

I'm planning to go to drag strip for the first time with co workers.
They have WRX Sti, C5 and Mustang GT 35 ann. special edition.
I'm probably gonna have the slowest time of all with my GS400.

I saw alot of post saying that brake touque to like 2000 RPM and floor the gas with track off and power on.
My question is that isn't that going to make the tires loose traction completely?
I never turn off my traction, and I get some wheel spin when I just floor with my 17" michellin pilot tires.
Is the pavement at drag strip gives better traction than normal street?

the track is sticky, you should hook. let a little air out of the rears and add a little in the front.
remove your spare tire, jack, trunk carpet etc..
