Default Transmission First Shift ~ 15 mph

Some help would be appreciated, I tried to do a few searches but came up pretty much empty on the subject.

I have a 98 Gs400 that since I bought @ 73k I have performed all the required maintence on.
Now it is at 112k and Ive done all belts, flushes, engine mounts, waterpump, seals, plugs etc.

However theres 1 thing that annoys me about my car is that when I am driving I tend to find myself accelerating to about 15 mph and having to stop cuz of traffic in front of me. When this happens, I push on the brakes, but my tranny shifts into the next gear anyways and it kinda gives my car a push.

the first shift is also usually the one I can feel the most, the shifts after the first 15 mph shift are not even feelable even when accelerating hard.

Is this a problem with my transmission or just the way the car is built ? it is just becasue I am accelerating too fast and having to brake too hard in traffic?

Will changing the transmission fluid to anything else other than the toyota branded oil help? will getting new transmission mounts help?

Or is it becasue of my driving style the ECU programs my car to do this?

Sorry for the bad grammer, studying for a test, Thanks for the help.

This happens to me in the mornings, try to reset your ECU.

When I first bought my GS I thought something might be wrong with the tranny due to the hard shifts out of first. It happens every morning, but if I let my car run for about 2-3 mins it usually isn't so bad. If you do searches you'll find that this is normal as many of us have the same issue. Really likes to hold on to that first gear. All other shifts are extremely smooth.

please read the owners manual...

This is normal. Even my 1994 MB does this since the day it left the showroom. If you do not warm up the car, the car will remain in the lower gears (forcing you to rev higher.. heating up the engine faster) in order to hasten the "warmup process" of the cat converters. It is really pronounced in the MB... My Brother's 2001 RX300 and 2006 IS350 do this too. My GS300 does it.. I haven't really noticed it on my LS430 since I warmup the car for 1 min before driving out.

How do you drive the car? Do you drive it aggressive or moderate. Aggressive high speed driving turns the Toyota type IV fluid brown and thick like molasses in a short amount of time and mileage. That stuff will clog up the valvebody within the tranny and cause jerkiness. My car used to do what your does until I switched to synthetic. Don't want to sound like an Amsoil spokesperson, but that stuff does wonders for the tranny. It did for me. As a result of using Amsoil, I have no jerkiness in the tranny whatsoever.
