Default Power Outlet Problem

Well, I managed to burn my power outlet up using a small compressor to fill up my tires. I pulled it out and it looks like this:

I tried another outlet from my friend's GS and it worked fine, so I didnt burn any wiring. Could I just solder that small wire back together or put another wire in there without risk of burning something else up? Almost scared to ask how much the Stealership wants for this outlet.

I believe that is a "fusable link". They blow before the fuse. Not the smartest thing, but pretty common on power outlets. If you just resolder it, there will be less protection than what the factory link gave you. Bypassing it really is'nt an issue, you'll probably blow fuses first, which isn't a big deal.

So your saying if I solder it, then the fuses would blow now instead of the link melting again? I just want to make sure im not gonna burn up some wiring. Thanks for the help.

driver's side kick panel.

i took the burnt wire out, added a small piece of new wire and soldered it in place. seems to work fine now with a cell charger.

for future reference, i found another thread where a member did the same thing when he used a compressor on his outlet, apparently not good.

Seems like the outlet in the armrest was meant to take less load than the one in the ashtray. I'd recommend not plugging in anything more than a cell phone / pda charger into the armrest 12v outlet.
