Got My Borlas - Immediate Thoughts After Install
This is my first mod
INSTALL:
First, let me tell you how glad I am I got a local shop to do the work. $60, and a deal at that.
I just went to a local Meineke shop. Kinda funny really. I called the place beforehand and asked if they could install some mufflers for me, I had my own. The guy is like 'yeah, we can do that. whadda got?'
I said a '98 Lexus GS400; I got some Borlas I want put on...'
He was like, 'ahhh, ooooK'
So I get there, and there are like old Chevy suburbans, fords and a few other cars about 5-10 years old, and people look at me like I got four heads when I pull up.
Nice guys, they did the work. Had to heat the pipes just a little to get things perfect. Took about an hour total.
I took some pics of the underside, muffler related, hangers, etc. if anyone is interested.
Most of the shop guys were takin looks and stuff; they asked if it was a V8 - yep, they seemed to approve after that
SOUND:
Got done, fired it up. OOOOhhhh yeaaahhhh.
Its like the difference between Bob Newhart and Barry White; a 'whoof' at sartup, then a smooth gurgle during idle - this is with the door open.
With the door shut, AC on, fan setting 1, just a slight hum you can hear from the rear. During easy acceleration, deeper hum, but still not loud really; very smooth, throaty. You can really hear the shifts accentuated now; almost feels like the Lexus is strutting now
Under heavier acceleration, a little louder, but not like headers or anything; I really like it because its a consistent hum; it doesn't fluctuate in tone or break or crackle. I LOVE IT.
I haven't really put my foot into it yet - but I did sit in the driveway with the door open and rev for a few minutes when I got home - oh yeah, the radio was never on
Pics later
Have great Sat!

Cool Dex,
Just put my mind at ease.. Won't have to listen to the wife whine about the car being overly loud with the exhaust after I get the Borla's installed.. Can't wait to see the pics.. BTW are the tips Stainless or Chrome??
Thanks!

bob newhart vs. barry white <insert chuckle.wav here>
that's funny.
congratulations on your successful installation. i guess meineke had no problems with the nuts or gasket issue, they probably have all that stuff on hand.
you must be the first of the backordered units to receive shipment. looks like the rest of us have some waiting by the window to do next week.

Bit: I've never hear the Ls, but I think mine are a hair louder. I duunno; just what I've read. Ls were my next option, until I heard DaveGs4's PROPS 2 him
Savy: tip; I found out at dinner; there is some ressonance when the sunroof is open - I LOVE IT - but see for yourself before you have the wifey have the SR open while driving
the sound is beautiful with the SR open!
dom: thanks again dude; I'm tellin you Barry in my trunck just hummin along - great work putting this all together; I feel like my GS is a different car, thought this could be dangerous to my challenging techniques
Glad I could help guys - can you tell I'm satisfied?
Have a good nite - I'm out again for more beers, and women!
Peace

dexter i just picked up the gaskets from the dealer in antipication of my installation.
they are metal gaskets. you're probably going to be fine reusing the existing ones. had i known they were metal i dont think i wouldve purchased replacements.
dont forget to post the pics especially the ones from the underside. thanks.

I had forgotten about the gasket issue until the tech was like' ok, where are the gaskets? surely borla included some...' I thought to myself 'crap', then the tech went over to my stocks and just popped them off - end of problem
I'll get some pics up tonite on this thread
Hi Guys,
Forv you guys that are worried about the wife's possible disagreement with the sound (most beautiful) emitting from your borlas, not to worry, there is a part called "venturies" that is free from borla, it cuts dowm on the resonance inside the car, but still gives that sweet sound outside the car.My wife noticed the first day i had them on,she have'nt said anything about it since,it's just a sweet truly V8 sound,The borlas ie. have not installed my venturies,i ordered them just in-case she complained, she has'nt. With the borlas on your car will stop singing "The sound of silence".

Alright guys,
Here are some pics from my Borla install; I managed to get these off the camera before my battery died, and I don't currently have my charger :>(
I know, I know, the car was filthy; I figured I’d wait until after the install to clean it up.
The following pics are just some random shots of the rear while up on the lift; kinda cool being able to see under your car like that without being on your back!
I’ll put up some more of the comparison shots of stock vs borla this weekend after I return hoMe and can get my charger.
Enjoy

) Way to go.
