I still have the CF on. I'm still waiting for the replacement SS to come. .

To The Bolt People,

You don't need new bolts. Only the nut is welded, and it's welded to the flange you don't replace. Unscrew the bolts, replace exhaust, screw back in.

I did get new gaskets at $8.00/each. I didn't replace them when I put on the CF Borlas, so I figured now would be a good time to put some new ones on.

The nuts are not attached to the Borla muffler flange like they are on the stock mufflers. You need to buy new nuts unless you want to cut the old ones off with a torch.

hddeuce how in the world did you get the spec on these bolts? i'm impressed.

my matsci guru wanted me to confirm with you that it's actually 1.25 and not 1.5 or some other more common thread rate. apparently 1.25's are rare but could have been designed for this application. just checking.

also, did you pick these up at the dealer? kragen?

thanks.

Picked up the nuts at Auto Zone. That was the number on the package they came in.

Whoops, my bad. Bad memory, that is. I just looked at the stock mufflers and my '99 is no different. The welded nuts are on the stock mufflers, not the still on the car. Midas put a new set bolts on when they did my CFs.

The bolt is not welded to the flange. The nut is welded to the flange. You can reuse the bolt but not the nut.

Exclamation Update!

Update!

Long story, but I got a call back from a rep at Borla. He was patient and I went through this and another post on the phone to compare the difference between the tips. He had a hard time telling, but did say he could that the new tips were rounder and "ended in less of a point" at the edges. He is still not sure whether this was a factor of production changes, or individual variation in manufacturing. I'm hoping it was a manufacturing snafu and a new tip technique has been employed. In any case, he's going to compare the pictures to the new exhaust he has waiting for me. He'll mail the suckers to me and I'll choose which ones are best looking. Let's hope for some rounder exhausts!
