I have a 2000 GS300... I want to upgrade the steering wheel to one with wood trim.... Which year and model steering wheel should I look for to do the upgrade as easily as possible?

hmmmm I believe you are refering to the attached pic. If yes then the year is 2001. They offered them for both the 300 & the 430. don't quote me on it but I belive thats the 1st year the steering wheel wood trim was an option.

Best of luck

In order to do the swap, if you have trip-tonic, you will need a 2001+ GS300 steering wheel in order to get the trip-tonic buttons and then you will have to get an RX330 air bag, in order to get the chrome emblem on it, because the RX has a single unit plug in like the pre 2001 air bags.

He has a 2000 GS300. I believe the GS430 is his best option.

You can send your wheel here.

I only say 2001+ GS300 if he wants the Trip-Tonic. If he's looking for just the wood steering wheel, then it doesn't matter which.

well regardless, with the new style steering wheel, he needs a new airbag, and the 2001 rx300 airbag is the only one that i know will work

I say send it here and you'll have it back in 3-4 weeks brand new

Agree, the most cost effective way to upgrade to a wood/leather steering wheel with an airbag that fits in the yoke and connects to your harness and keep your in-steering wheel controls (such as triptronic shift) is to send YOUR wheel to American Stitches for modification. The only downside is you won't get the chrome Lexus emblem on the airbag. But you will get a brand new steering wheel equal to or better than OEM quality for less than half the cost of buying a new wheel let alone the additional cost of changing out the airbag.
