I searched for this answer, but didn't see anything. I was trying to remove some trunk panels this weekend to install XM. I could not figure out how to remove the panel clips! How do I get those out? I tried giving them a tug with a pliers, and using a screwdriver in the slot and pry. Nothing would pop them out. I really didn't want to mar the surface, so I gave up and went a different route. Now I want to increase the tension on my trunk spring and I need to remove a couple clips to do that.
You were on the right track with the screwdriver. I'm surprised that didn't work. I use a very small flat head screwdriver that extends through the slot. I then wiggle the screwdriver back and forth as a slowly work the clip out.
Put a flathead screwdriver into the slot, then pry it straight out. Sometimes I use my fingers as the fulcrum if there isn't anything else to rest the screwdriver on.
you need a clip removal tool they are like 5 or 10 bux at a local auto parts store they will safely remove the clips without breaking them
Yea, what he said. You should really invest in one of those clip removal tools. I tried messing with screwdrivers, pliers, etc. Go to your local auto parts store and get a clip removal tool. You will not reget it.
Thanks guys. Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough with the screw driver. I figured I'd check here beforee I wrecked something. I wanted to make sure I wasn't supposed to turn the clip 23 degrees, then pull with 18ftlbs of force at a 97 degree angle with a special Lexus only hydraulic clip removal tool.
So maybe something like this would work if I can't pull it with a screwdriver?
That is exactly what you need.......if in a pinch, take a pair of small dykes, open them up, slide them under the clips, then pry up......that works too. Using a screwdriver will take alot more time, and most likely you will end up chewing them up.
