I don't understand why the price varies from dealership to dealership for maintenance, be it a 10k, 20k, 30k, etc. I mean, if they all perform the same procedure, use the same Toyota parts, and it takes the same amount of time, why does it vary, not just state to state but literally city to city within a state ?! Is it that some are independent dealers ? And if so, what is to keep them from gouging customers with disregard to Lexus, Inc. ? I just don't see why if I'm driving out of state that I should worry about what another dealer would charge me just because I've reached a point for maintenance, and I happen to be away from my own dealership that I usually use. I honestly wouldn't mind if Lexus even bumped up the list price another say, $1500 and then included all maintenance for the first 3 or 4 years. Granted, my wife's new BMW is overpriced (compared to a Lexus), but I never pay out of pocket within the initial warranty period. And psychologically, it kills me to know that I've just spent $45k + and have to give them $500 to change the oil and replace my wipers

And I've noticed that it changes my driving habits, i.e. when I know that in another couple thousand miles or so, I have a $1200 checkup coming, I'll not drive it as much, not because I can't afford it, but that I'm shelling out more money while my wife just keeps on driving, disconcerned about warranty fees . Ironically, this was BMW's big selling point when we went to their dealership.
