i heard that alpine makes the best nav systems out there. but don't take my word for it. my car has the factory nav. so i don't have any experience when it comes to the aftermarket nav systems. i just heard from a lot of friends that got alpine navs in their cars that it's one of the best out there.
not sure. but a friend of mine just got his installed in his bmw a couple of weeks ago. he told me it's the latest system from alpine. it had the screen that comes out and then flips up. not a touch screen though, it comes with a remote control. if i remember correct, he spent around $2000 for the system (installed) which i thought was a little on the high side.
Cong, I have the Alpine Powernav. Its a DVD based-NAV and suppposely the best aftermarket nav there is THUS FAR. A couple of points to say
1) The Powernav itself DOES NOT come with a screen. You need to buy yourself a seperate screen (ex, CVA-1005 or IVA-C800, the one I have). Or you can wait for the new CVA-1006, it should be out anytime. I dunno too much details about that.
2) It is a bitch to install but well worth the effort , I gaurantee it ! Very precise/friendly display of the map. Nice Voice Guidance on every corner you turn and tells you approx how many feet left to the next corner. Alot of help.
I would say pioneer's latest dvd-nav is the best, even better than Alpine's latest dvd-based nav.
Go check it out on pioneer's site, it costs around $2,100 just for the system, and then you have to get about a $700 pioneer screen (or you can spend $1300 on a screen and get one that plays dvd-movies too and is a bit more advanced)
So, if you want the absolute best in screen and nav, then go for both pioneer, and later you can add screens to your headrests too. That way, the people in the rear can watch dvd movies played by your fold-out screen while you are up front viewing dvd-nav maps at the same time with your dvd-rom nav.
Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate your input. I just trade-in my GS300 for the 2001 GS300 w/ nav. I'll let my other buddies know which navigation to get.
