Arrow How do you hook up aftermarket navi?

I have a question. I've found some awesome deals over the past two weeks on Mobile video setups and the next thing I would like to do after I finish the setup, its grab a navigation unit. I hear Alpine navis only work on Alpine headunits and I also hear that each manufactuer does the same thing. Is this true? OR is there a way to interconnect each system (i.e have a Clarion radio like the VRX835 and control it through an alpine DVD NAVI)? HELP PLEASE!!!!
Thanks

You don't need to have the same HU to run a NAV. I've installed the Alpine NAV with the 5.8" to an Eclipse 3402. The Alpine NAV & screen has one proprietary plug for display, which makes interface easy. But I can't recall if the NAV has composite outputs to connect to other brands of screens, my guess is that there isn't. In you case, there is only a mute wire (typically pink) that you will need to connect between the Alpine NAV/screen and the Clarion. The 5.8" screen has a built-speaker to announce the directions. Whenever it does so, it will mute the HU.
