Anyone know Where i can purchase the new navigation system that was installed in the 2001 and up model gs. I have the older HD model and woudl like to upgrade to the newer model. Anyone know how much this could run me? Located in Santa Clara, CA if anyone knows a company that can do it there. Or I am also In LA very often. THanks

very expensive. i am not 100% sure but you will need the head unit, the dvd nav in the trunk, the new trunk mats, the harness possibly. and if it's 02+ that means you might need to get the ML system as well

and the labor will run you big time as well i suppose. it's a lot of money imho

most definitely. from a cost point of view i think that makes all sense.

my gs4 has no nav at all, and i have done a lot of homework on putting oem nav retro. it's just too much money imho

BTW I am not certain that you can install the 01 unit in the 98-99. I talked to Gus about this and he seems to feel that the wiring is different somehow . I dont know if anyone has successfully done this however if you find that it is possible please PM me so that I can upgrade

Default nav on ebay

This guy on ebay has two nav units and also a wire harness. The harness was $50 and the nav was $750 I think. Here are the item numbers

harness Item number: 5775750412
nav+dvd+antenna Item number: 5775758660

he has some other stuff also. just search ebay for the item numbers. Hope this helps. If anyone knows if this will work let me know, someday I would like to upgrade also.

the harness on ebay is for toyota retrofits and doesnt t work on lexus. the reason is.it doesnt have the ac heater control connections and other data port wiring connections necessary for proper instalation of lexus factory nav systems .that is why lexus factory navigation systems are special compared to most toyota or aftermarket installs. they incorporate much of the car functioning data into the touch screen..................................................................................................................... however that is also the problem as far as the 01 upgrade from 98 to 2000 gs. .the ac controls wont work without proper connection to the right ecus. and in 2001 they added a new ecu called the gateway ecu that provides this function the many advantages of the 01 system are that the screen has a direct ntsc tv video input for dvd movie viewing with a lexus 6 cd dvd cd changer or a tv tuner. there is no need to tap the rgb lines like on the first genration 98. to 2000 gs nav system and for that matter all 2nd genration lexus systems. . also the lexus factory 6 dvd cd changer has direct input into the factory audio system. so the inferior fm modulation is not needed. so the harness isnt the problem it is getting it wired up in the 98 gs to the right data ecus.......................................................................................... i also have already tried just swapping computers. i matched up the computer wires from the 98 gs hard drive computer to the dvd 2001 gs computer and it was not recognized by the screen. . that is what someone repoorted didnt work. swapping the whole system screen computer and wiring hasnt been tried to my knowledge. but it will be soon. i will will keep you posted.
