Default instrument lights gone dead?

Dear fellow members, i have a problem i hope someone can diagnose. my 2nd gen gs instrument lights turn off when headlights turn on. i was changing my burned out rear tailights. When i turned the lights on, the radio didn't light up nor the instrument gauges. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. THanks for your expert advise.

you checked all of them??

where did you look?

are the taillights still out

i always thought when the dash lights went out it was to tell/warn you that your brake/tails are out ??

I thought the same thing too. I would go back and recheck all the fuses and make sure none of them are out.

I'd hate to start a new thread for such a simple question so I'll hijack this one since it's related.

When it's night time (headlights on in auto mode) and I turn off the car, the headlights stay on and the gauges go out (all expected). The buttons around the navigation unit stay on (Audio, Climate, Map, etc.) but the lights for the radio controls turn off. Normal?

Another related question: Should the ECT control switch light up with the parking lights on (like the VSC and heated seat switches)?
