Anyone familiar with these products? I've heard of them before but was wondering what kind of real world gain the insulators will provide. I've heard that they were not good for your headers because it can cause them to expand, even crack- any validity to that or was that just speculation? WOW, a 70% reduction in engine bay temp is awesome! It claims to increase HP and torque by helping to keep the exhaust fumes hotter thus allowing the hotter gases to escape faster and by keeping the air going into the filter cooler. Anyone with experience? Comments? Greatly appreciated.

PS. this is also a relatively inexpensive mod so I'm hoping to get some good feedback.

most of the time when something sounds too good to be true, it's probably not.

It might be pretty inexpensive, but the results are probably limited too. I don't think wrapping your entire engine in some blankets will help THAT much.

Default Heat..

I'm sorry, but did you mean to say "if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is?"

Regarding wrapping headers and other high-temperature components of engines.. I've heard good things about them. They result in less heat around the engine compartment. Generally these wraps don't look good. I mean, who wants to have an engine bay that looks like it's wrapped in alluminum foil? There are after-market performance headers and exhaust components that are coated with certain materials (like ceramics) to make them less heat-conductive.

If the mod is cheap enough, why not try it? Then you could report your results to the forum. Look for a money-back guarantee. If they have one, this whole experiment might not cost you any money (other than shipping expenses).

What I was trying to say is that they might just make it sound alot better and useful than it actually is. In racecars, they usually wrap alot of pipes with these things, but that's because those engine components are running under extreme heat.

These wraps might be pretty cheap, but the results are probably not even the same as if you just get SRT intake or something.

I was researching on the theromtec products online and found that a lot of people are actually using it. Thermotec products are actually really cheap. The tape is like 65 bucks or something. Ray, it does kind of sound too good to be true but their claims do make sense. All I want to try to do is wrap the headers so that the heat is minimized in the engine bay. I'm sure SRT's intake is the way to go but for $65? That is why I'm interested if anyone has done this mod before. Thanks.

I had that installed on my 3000VR4 and does nothing as far as performance goes. it just helps to keep the pipes cool.

I think it would work if you take your car to tracks and you drive it hard for like 2-3hours maybe thats when it comes in handy other than that its a waste of money
