Lightbulb 2001 GS300 purchase questions

Hey everyone,

I'm in the market to get a 2001 Blue GS300 and wanted some comments from the users here.

$25,000 for a Certified Pre Own (3 year 100k)
About 38,000 mileage, excellent condition, navigation, Power stuff, memory, heated seats, interior beige leather seats slightly used and Xeon lights.
Is this a good deal?

And more importantly, are there any specific complaints about this car?
So far I see something about a slamming trunk.
I plan to add a $695 rear spoiler option directly from them.

Also, the internet has now become a place to sell and buy new and used vehicles. Listed below are a few sites that have members of their websites able to sell and buy vehicles such as the GS.

Autotrader
E-Bay Motors

When buying a car, you also want to look out for prior accidents or REBUILT or SALVAGED or OTHER titles on vehicles. Although the vehicle may currently have a low price and look like an awesome deal, the resale value is non existant and the integrity of the vehicle will always be in question. A good site to check this out on is listed below.

I think it's a good deal. I just purchased a white 2001 GS300 in December, so I'll make the comparison for you. Mine was also a certified purchase from a Lexus dealer. It had 49,000 miles and was immaculate inside and out. It does not have the Xeon lights, but it does have a factory spoiler and the Lexus chrome wheels. The dealer was asking $30,990 (OMG!!). I talked him down to $26,000. I wasn't happy with that price, but I'd been shopping for a while and this was the exact car I wanted, so I paid it. And mine does NOT have the NAV, so I'd say $25,000 for the one you want sounds pretty good.

As for the trunk slam, it can be fixed. I haven't done it yet, but I've read about it. You can search the forum for more info on that. My trunk lid stays open and doesn't shut unexpectedly. But when I do shut it, it will slam unless I take care to shut it easy.

Hmmm, sounds like I might have a great deal on my hand.
I hope I get it. Thanks for your input and please advise when you do find any problems...
My worst fears... stupid noises from the interior.

How common is navigation on the GS300? I barely ever see them. I guess maybe a lot of people figured that they would be close enough to the 400/430 after they added all the goodies.

I personnaly am such a gadget freak (and am satisfied enough with the 300) that I would consider a 300 w/ Nav over a 400/430 w/out it.

I'm a gadget freak myself. But like others, I would probably opt for a GS400 other than the options. But in my case I guess it's a lucky steal. I hope I can get my hands on it. Shall update you all and see if I can join the GS crowds.

I use the trusty speaker system to nullify the noise you mentioned.

Default Good Deal!

I just purchased (2 weeks ago) 2001 GS 300 38k miles w/factory warranty until July for $23,800+tax. No Nav, but otherwise the same as you are looking at. I have had 2 warranty items taken care of, rubber door trim on car side was torn, replaced no charge. BUT the big deal was the piping on the drivers seat was split, Lexus replaced the whole of the bottom of the drivers seat (the only part of the car showing any ware) for nothing! Came with new floor mats all round, so I hope I got a deal-but didn't get the 3 year 100k warranty. I can purchase one for around $1,200 before Lexus warranty runs out, so I might do that.

Trunk thing is no bid deal, after market spoilers are solid and weigh too much for the trunk springs. I have moved the springs out 30 degress and it helps, but trunk doesn't pop up like it should, but it doesn't bang down on your head when the wind blows!

Enjoy it, my second Lexus, first was an RX300, which I didn't like, poor turning circle, small gas tank and couldn't get the seat to wheel to peddals right for me. GS totally different animal. Machog

Thanks. I actually had a 2002 IS300 just before Monday, before it was BURNED. Long story.
So since insurance payout won't be enough for a new car, I opt for for a CPO GS. My favorite anyway. As you can see, I didn't waste time shopping for a replacement car.

So since I'm getting the rear spoiler directly from the dealership, it should be lighter and ok.
I'll update you guys, once i get it. Umm, IF I get it.

I noticed all the links does not work except for the one to Lexus.com.
Upon reading your post carefully, I see the same problem here as my old IS300.
The damn rattle in the dash and especially the sunroof.
I found a fix for the IS300 after some gruesome experiment on the roof but never managed to fix the dash. Anyone here found a fix for both of these for the GS?
