BIGGIE,

The GS400 does have a "dummy shifter" that shifts automatically but it ONLY WORKS FROM 2nd to 3rd. From 3rd to 4th and to 5th you can just sit at redline till you shift it.

Cool I can bounce off rev limiter in 2nd

I don't buy into this dummy shifter, I can bounce off my rev limiter all day in 2nd gear and on when in e-shift. I have never once had the car upshift for me in e-shift, only time it upshifts is the usual 1st to 2nd that we have no control over unless one gate shifts. If I don't upshift the gear remains, regardless of how many times I bounce off the rev limiter. Now I have a 98 GS4, maybe Lexus changed it up, but I have bounced off the rev limiter many times in 2nd gear and on, when racing and forgetting to upshift until the car bogs down (bouncing off the rev limiter) and I remember to upshift. Are Biggie and I the only one who have e-shift that allows for one to bounce off the rev limiter in 2nd? I want to hear what everyone else has out of curiousity.

Well, as you might already know my car DOES shift for you when you hit the rev limiter in second!! I have a 2000 GS400 Platinum Edition. Did Lexus change it or soemthing?!? I thought all the e-shift models had a "dummy shifter"??

like i told justin, i think the first automatic shift, or "dummy shifter" is from 1st into 2nd.. after it is in 2nd, u can bounce off the revlimiter...

My '98 GS4 shifts automatically for me in "manual" mode. When I try for my best times, 0-60 & 1/4 mile, I have gotten them by letting the computer shift for me in manual mode. I don't know for sure about the 3-4 shift. It must shift by itself though or I would have noticed in my 1/4 mile runs (at the end). One thing for sure, my car has been running awesome. It was 63 degrees here in S. Fla tonight and my car was pulling hard. The shift from 1-2 is very aggressive, and 2nd feels very strong. I got a 0-60 time the other night (76 degrees) of 5.86 seconds on my friend's G-tech. That is my best time yet. Tonight it felt quicker though because of the cooler weather, but I didn't have the G-tech. I am positive That I can break into the 5.7's on a cool night like tonight. Any more than that in a stock GS4 is not too likely. First gear is a little slow. Second is short and awesome. Although, I wouldn't want first to be any shorter because of traction off the line. Second gear is perfect!

LexToyo:

In manual do you leave the gear in 5 and let the xmission do the shifts (my assumption is, this mode would be the same as Drive (auto) )

OR

Do you drop it down to 2 and let the xmisson shift up for you as rpm reaches red line.
