Question Switch Tach and Gas Gauge Clusters

I have a '98 GS300 and would like to switch the tachometer gauge with the gas gauge cluster so that the tach is on the right side of the instrument cluster.

Does anyone know if that can be done? If so, what does it take to do that, like taking the instrument cluster out.?

Thanks

not really sure how you can achieve that, but i dont' expect it to be anything cheap to do, gotta be quite some money coz' i assume there will be some cutting and a lot of new wiring and boards design?

why would you wanna do it though

Exclamation

The "why" is because the steering wheel partially blocks my view of the tach, especally the left side of it where it's generally pointing. I don't look at the other gauges as much.

I never really noriced until I bought a Chrysler that has the tach on the right, as does my Corvette. I noticed I pay a lot of attention to the tachs in those cars than the GS. Why? Because I can't see it clearly.

Meanwhile, you're probably right. Complicated and expensive. I expect the instrument cluster has a single integrated circuit board behind the gauges, all the while hoping not.

I was wondering if anyone knew whether that was the case or not.

Thanks for the reply.

actually, if you can get your hands on a Japanese OEM gauge cluster, the tach and gas gauges are switched

Thanks, John. I suppose that's alot more difficult than it might seem. True? I'd have no idea how to go about that.

Do you know if such a cluster would read in our standard unit of measure or metrics?

It would be switched but it would be in KM/H and litres for the gas

If you mean like this. Then you would probably need to get the instrument cluster and change out the face to mph & gallons. Wiring should be the same

Yep, that's exactly the way I'd like to have the gauge cluster. I suppose I could use the actual guages and faces from my car with the circuit board from the Japanese model.

Is it the circuit board that does the calibration for the gallons/liters and mph/kph or is it somewhere else?

And where could I find a cluster or board? Anyone know?

Meanwhile, thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

I am thinking you don't need to do anything other change the face, because the needle should point to the same place whether its 62 mph or 120 kph. Same for the fuel gauge liters/gallons. Or you can start switching metric before the rest of us .

Now, that's an interesting idea. Tried it. Turned out that, besides having difficulty seein' the road, the tach is now blocked by the right side of the steering wheel instead of the left side.

LOL...
