Gauge cluster not working
So I was taking my gauge cluster apart to change 2 lights that went out. I go to put it back together and the lights work. I start it up and my rmp reads below the 0, my gas gauge goes up past full when i only have under half a tank. Then i drive it around the block and the speedometer doesnt work, and neither does the odometer. What did i mess up? Do i need a new cluster now, and if so where can i get one for cheap?
I did the same thing to my 95 gauge cluster. Fubar'd. rpm's were about 250 off. gas was off by about 1/8th of a tank. Speedo stopped working entirely. Find a replacement. Ebay is probably your best bet. Good luck
wow it is hard to answer since i don't know what everything was put back together like. in the question of whether or not "YOU" could get it fixed, i dunno. i'll give you as many pointers as i can. if you can't get it fixed after i go through some things with you, i have a custom cluster for a spare. check your PM for a bunch of boring and detailed questions on what you did, and what you can check.
If your speedo and tach needle lighting has not already gone south, they will soon. I found a great company that replaces the lighting in both needles, recalibrates everything, and replaces any other bulbs in the entire instrument cluster. I just had mine done, he even changed the color (optional) to a nice blue instead of the old orange. You have to remove your instrument cluster and send it in for repair, but the turnaround is very quick, and lots of favorable comments from other customers. The website gives simple removal directions. Before removing any connectors, make sure you:
1) have moved your steering wheel position all the way down and aft to insure removal clearance
2) Leave the ignition switch OFF until after you have reinstalled the instrument cluster, otherwise your airbag light will come on, requiring a trip to the dealer.
The cost for the whole job is just $99, a steal compared to the 800-900 Lexus wants for replacement needles!

He prefers to work through his e-bay posting... just search for Lexus instrument cluster and his listing should pop up, or you can go direct to the website.
