Question Question about tinting

I currently have a 2001 GS 300, and the factory tint just isn't very good. Therefore, I plan on tinting my windows this weekend. However, I live in California don't want to deal with police tickets/having to roll down my windows everytime I think I see a cop, so I cant do a low % for every window. I do want to get some tint on the front two windows, but I was thinking maybe 50%? And then, I have no idea what I should do for the rest of the windows. Should I do 35%, so the contrast isn't too bad? Or should I do 20%? I'm almost certain I'm going to be doing 50% for the front two, but what about the rest? I originally wanted to do 35% all around, but a lot of people (including family) told me not to. So I figure with like a 50% tint on the front two, I shouldn't have to deal with tickets too often, if it at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, if any of you have ever done 50%/35% and have a pictures, it'd be great. Thank you.

By the way, I have black exterior and black interior.

Default Not sure but...

I think mine is 50% front and 35% rear three. The front two are definitely lighter tint than the rear and it looks fine. The tint doesn't have to be real dark to still make a BIG difference in heat rejection. As long as the cops can see in the car under most conditions, you should be OK. I have had tint on all my vehicles for at least the last twenty years (or more) and only once have I had to remove it for a fix it ticket. I think it helps to have the front two lighter than the rear for that reason.
Don't have a real good pic to show the tint but you can check my gallery pics and get some idea... I'll try to check my receipt to see what the tint % is when I get a chance.

Thumbs up

I went with 20% (medium shade) all around as I like to keep it all the same colour......the tint will fade a bit over time with exposure to the sun (no matter what the tint company says....it WILL fade a little no matter what). I put 35% on all windows on a previous car I owned & was disappointed over timw becasue of the fading......& that was a top quality tint as well......make sure you get a "metalized" tint too!

I only plan on owning my car for another 3 or 4 years, so by the time it fades, it shouldn't affect me too much.

However, I'm really curious about doing 50% tint on the front 2, and 35% for the rest. I don't like the look when the two front windows have no tint at all (i think it looks akwward) so i figure with 50%, there would be at least some blending. However, because I can do whatever I want on the back windows, should I do 20%? Or will the contrast between the 50% and the 20% be too great? I know ideally 35% on all would be great, but I don't want to deal with tickets constantly (and there sure are a lot of cops in Los Angeles) and I figure with 50%, it wont attract as much attention. Plus, because my interior is black, will that make the tint look darker than it really is?

Yes, but just a bit.. not quite noticeable.. I suggest go with 35%, it does not too dark at all, believe me..
I have 35% all around except front

yes, if you ahve dark interior, your car would look darker on tints, so that's why i say go lighter. plus darker doesn't mean cooler anyway, as long as tints have UV protection (most of them are nowadays), you are good
