Dash Color Matching: Need paint Code help
Hey guys, I was planning on getting a custom dash kit for my new deck, and I was wondering if anyone knew the paint code, or type of paint that would match the ac control color? Its kind of a greying black....
Thanks for the help

I've never seen pictures that *exactly* match.
Member JohnP66 recently painted his center console , search for him in gallery (something is wrong with my search there right now, may be everyone).

Yeah, thanks for the info dave, yeah, it looks better all the same obviously, i think the pain is a little too light on his. Is the dash color painted on or is actually the finish of the plastic?

Instead of trying to make the same mismatch, I just picked a black that actually matches the AC vents better than stock. Then just painted the radio and AC bezels to match.
In the pic posted by Blue98Gs3 you can see that the AC buttons no longer match the area around it. i did the same thing on my pieces except the color I picked is darker. It doesn't match exactly either, but it is very close to the color of the vents. I'd rather deal with a slight mis-match of the AC buttons than deal with a mis-match of the radio bezel with the AC bezel and vents.
Go to an automotive paint supply store that sells SEM brand plastic bumper spray paint. I can't tell you what color I used, because I threw away the cap. No color printed on the can , DARN !
It really doesn't matter because they have the paint chips there with about 5 to 10 different shades of gray / black. Just find the one you think matches the best.
Good Luck.
On the pic below you can see that my monitor bezel and AC bezels match the AC vents well.

Photgraphing a dash kit is very tricky, at least in daylight. I have a 3m tint on the sides, the sunroof becomes another different filter, and the windshield is another. And there is light bouncing all around inside the vehicle.
Note how the dash itself changes shades in this photo -- distinct cyan cast on the right. Human eye corrects for all of this, the camera cannot. It should be shot at night with very diffuse light from inside the car. Another thought -- I didn't want to "match" the dash because it's almost impossible to do unless you start with the same material and prime everything. Lexus certainly didn't do it perfectly, either. I may do this again in a few weeks with some careful testing with paint on more than one material.

Agreed that Lexus did not match the radio / AC controls well. However these parts along with the ash tray and shift console are the only interior pieces that differ significantly. The rest of the interior is not bad at all.
The SEM brand of paint sold at the automotive paint supply stores is designed to match the shade, texture and gloss of standard automotive interiors. These three qualities are some of the most important ingredients to making a close match. Aside from my black interior, SEM also offers shades of grey, beige, cream and other standard automotive interior colors.
For those that really want to match their interior as close as possible, then don't waste time experimenting with paints offered at Home Depot, hobby shops or any non-automotive paint store.
I would grade my paint matching to the a/c vent at :
Gloss: 9 out of 10
Shade: 9.5 out of 10
Texture: 8.5 out of 10
I'll try to find out and report the PN of the paint I used, the next time I visit the paint store.

I just did a search and found this place, so I'm not recommending them, just giving an example.

Update: I've been searching for the matching color and only after I went looking for the bumper spray above (and found two possible matches) did I find this thread where RMMGS4 already lists the paint code he used

I guess the worst part it isn't anywhere near the same part number as the SEM bumper spray I tracked down. My installer actually has a SEM dye kit, but it doesn't have anything slightly metallic like our dash is. I took my old head unit to the SEM dealer and we pulled out the chip card to compare. There are two SEM bumper coater aerosol sprays that are very close to the color of our OEM a/c controls and radio units.
39263 Dark Titanium Metallic
39273 Charcoal Metallic
The Dark Titanium is actually a tiny bit lighter, but probably a closer match judging from the paint chip, The Charcoal Metallic is a tiny bit darker, but was a closer match judging from the lid of the can.
Of course I bought both. I'll report back on how it looks and which one they use (or both) to make it match.
I embarked an a frantic search for this stuff once I stopped by and saw my head unit install in progress and absolutely hated the black painted surround.

Matches AC as closely as I could get. Very close in color, sheen and texture.
