Was this the front seats or back seats? Was it due to wear and tear? Or poor quality leather/poor workmanship?

My cracking leather is on the driver side .The cracks are dued to normal wear or can consider it as low quality leather which most happened on the GS model. If any of you here have these problem due to cracking leather or cracking on the trim. i suggest you take your car to the service before the warranty is over. i gave myself a try and finally got it replace. GOOD LUCK with yours

I have seen several cars with cracked leather, and not to be rude, but they almost always were owned by overweight people. I'm not saying you are, but it's just something that I noticed.

My '98 GS400 with 96K miles leather still looks new. In case you are wondering, I am thin. Coincidence?

It has to do with the type of leather used in pre-1998 models. Lexus changed the texture from the sturdy durable leather that was used in the early to mid-90's, to the softer, more supple leather used from '98-present. I own a '99 GS4 and my leather has cracks all over the drivers seat. I only weigh about 155lbs, so I don't think weight is really an issue. I also clean and condition my leather on a regular basis, but it's still cracking. My friend owns a '95 LS and it has twice as many miles as my GS does. He also weighs about 20lbs more than me and his seats look ALOT better than mine. His LS's seats are just as comfortable as mine and I really don't think the softness of the leather makes a difference in seat comfort anyway. Bad idea on the part of Lexus IMO

What would the warranty be on the seats???? 4 years 40,000 miles? It is way to cold to go out to the car and check. Does anyone know?

Correct me if i am wrong. i believe the warranty on the lexus is 3 years or 50,000 miles which ever come first and the warranty will cover any defects that happen before the warranty. i am the second owner of my GS. The car has about 39,000 miles on it and the leather was cracked when i first got it. That is poor workmanship. i have to say that the leather on the GS model are not as good as the LS model.
