Just got back from The Chrome Dome. Their chroming process is not realy chrome nor is it paint. It is more of a white enamel base coat with a multi-stage, multi-chemical spray process, followed by a clear coat. It does look good, especially on smaller parts. This stuff is extremely flexible. They showed me a sample piece of thin blue plastic that they chromed and squeezed it until the plastic piece broke in half, yet the chrome finish did not crack , flake or peel.
If I remember correctly, they can change the color of the chrome by changing the base coat color and tinting the clear coat. The clear coat does have UV inhibitors in it and can give a slight blue cast to the white chrome, especialy on larger pieces. It is only noticable when you have 2 different pieces of chrome types side by side.
It looks as if they may have had small backlog of parts to chrome so they may want to chrome those parts next week. If they do end up chroming < I will run my bezel piece to them and have it chromed. They did say that the piece would be around $45.00 to chrome and would need the part for no more than a week.
They have had this process of chroming in their shop for around 10 months.
Of course they asked how many people from Club Lexus would be interested in having this done if all goes well. I could not give them an estimate and told them that everyone would probably be interested in seeng the end results before making that decision. They also asked about a group buy possibilitiy and told them that group buys were allowed through approved venders and left it at that since I am not of official rank within Club Lexus to make those decisions or representations.

If enough of you guys contact them and show interest, maybe they will start up their chroming process before they move. Money is a great motivator and I assume that they are in business to make money. They warranty their service and seemed real interested in satisfying their customers of this product (service). I know that I asked them to contact me when the knew that they were going to start chroming again and I would take them my part to chrome. They asked me to contact them if I had not heard from them by Wed 1/26/04.
It would be of interest to them to know a rough estimate of how many people are interested in having this done from CL. Maybe a moderator could start a pole?
Another aspect of this process that I thought was pretty interesting is that the chrome itself is transparent ( maybe translucent). That is why they have to have a colored base coat. That is why ithe base coat is white for white chrome. The can actually chrome fog lights lenses. They had a custom car that they blue chromed the outter fog light trim and the lenses were white chrome. The light would still project through the lense.
