Unhappy DIY from HELL

well, i had been searching the forum for a while trying to get a chrome grill and i gave up after searching for a few months. so i decided to just do my grill, how bad can it be, right??... well i went to home depot and purchased a gel type paint remover. i used it and did the front of the ribs (only took 45 min. total) and i was satisfied and felt good about myslef well, a couple hours after i put my grill back on my car, my sister came home and said its ok, BUT it would be better if i did the WHOLE THING. now, im a perfectionist and everything has to be A+. so i said, i should do it. BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG mistake. i beg everyone, NOT to do this... its a BIG anyway, to make a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong story short, about 7 1/2 hrs later i finished it. i would give anything to have not done it b/c i thought i was gonna die before i finished my grill. well, i finished it, and i was happy that i finished and it looks ok, but it came at the expense of my sanity. i will post pics if i ever figure out how to do it. but to all that are thinking about doing this, BELIEVE me, im not rich, but if you want a chrome grill, BUY IT.

I just did my grill (only the front part of the slats) It took me about 2 football games (Divisional playoffs this Sat). By the time the games were over I was done...I was feeling dizzy by the time I was done. I would like to do the whole thing, does anyone have any pics with it done.

I used Goof Off but I don't think it worked smooth, I had to scrub HARD

Is this fully chromed? I didn't chrome sides like you did but for some reason yours look a lot better. I have a 2000 grill. I noticed that 2001+ grills have thicker slats and they look better chromed. Know anywhere I can find one?

hey,
i used a gel type and kept it on for 10 minutes, then took a medium bristle toothbrush and and scrubbed it all off , worked like a charm. ill post some pics of it. took me a total of 2 hours.. 1st hour and a half was doing it with a qtip, and maybe 1/5 of the grill. the last 30 minutes, i did the rest of the grill with less effort.

yeah doing the whole thing is like asking for it, that's a lot of work specially if you wanna make sure it is perfect.

What type of Gel did you use (the name and what store did you buy it from). I would like to chrome my whole grill.

Thanks.
