I feel your pain. I posted a similar story a few months back

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...threadid=97065

Of course I smashed my grille in the accident, and now I have a new one to play with. Front of the fins only this time.

It took me 6 hrs with Acetone. That was my first mod...ahhh. Now I have a sports design grill anyways. I like the bigger look.

thanks for the insight..i jussssstttt got finished doing my grill...4:30 AM... took me all night..started about 10 pm. Well, I prepped for about an hour (while drinking). I spent another hour fooling around with trying to do just the grills with a qtip and some gel spray goo remover, it did't work very well. I finally said screw it, and went and got some EZStrip Aircraft Stripper. I used a new soft toothbrush and the only probem i have is having to constantly wash it off because the paint comes off in layers. I guess I should've got Jasco from the beginning. Or, just a thin tray of paint thinner..
It's not perfect yet, i couldn't get a good view in the light, I'll have the finish it off tomorrow. I have PIX of the grill right after I removed and cleaned it, and I will definitely take after pix and post them up.
I hope the aircraft stripper doesn't damage it

well...i took 2 hrs for just the front slats w/ Jasco. Is there something stronger than Jasco that would help do this faster? I remember using alot of "elbow grease" as well....by the end, I was kinda tired....but happy it was over.

Doing the entire thing is a PITA....like Rom said....I would go crazy trying to do it all. More props to you....7.5 hrs is total perserverance.

well, i just went back over my grill in the daylight not good. I can't seem to get all the paint off between the slats, even after letting it soak in paint thinner for an hour. I used EZStrip brand, both Aircraft Remover AND paint thinner, the Aircraft Remover worked much better. You can get it at Walmart in the auto section with the rest of the auto paint stuff. it's in a light blue and white can with a 747 on the front

but, i'm afraid that some of the residue is not paint, and that i've possibly messed up the chrome. It doesn't really matter, my grill was pretty chipped up to begin with
maybe i'll just sand it down and have it chrome dipped that'll make it smooth.

until then, i'm just going to get one of the Wald Toyota Aristo grills (painted all black)..should work for awhile..

on my DIY.

i just tried it with the orange citrus gel that you find at home depot. Im going for the all chroem look. The front comes off easily. The inside ribs are a pain in the ****. I gave up. What do I use to accomplish this DIY?
Im not about to spend 7.5 hours. Please help
