Default fading optitron??

My optitron seems like its fading and becoming dimmer. Maybe it's just me, idk. The speedometer seems to be dimmer than the rest of the other gauges. I have my dimmer **** on all the way. Is there a bulb or fuse or something that needs to be changed???

I have noticed the EXACT same thing recently and just chalked it up to the cold weather. Someone who knows more about the technology than me will have to clear up whether or not my theory has any validity.

I notice that sometimes too, but i sit kinda far back, so i think it puts my view point on a diff plane for the speedo.

Also remember that it automatically lightens up or darkens based on light!!

D - You are correct. It does change based on lighting conditions. I would have to think that it has three modes: daylight, twilight (with lights off), nighttime (with lights on)...I haven't confirmed these, but do experience these changes daily...

dgot and kva,
i know what you guys mean i need a lot of room since i am 6'6, i have to say that the lexus gs does have good amount of room though. i have owned a expedition, new corvette, explorers and broncos and this car has the most leg room (with the exceptions of the bronco).

on the thread though. my gauges seem to dim too but then sometimes they are bright, i wish i could figure out how to keep them nice and bright, cuz when they are dim they seem to be a off white color and when they are bright , they are nice and white!

My gauges also get dim sometimes. It worries me when it does because I think that my battery is gonna die or something and stall in the middle of the freeway. I do notice it more during colder days too, or maybe not?

The displays brightness definetley changes automatically with the car's outside ambient light. A good example is going fast (heh) entering or exiting a dimly lit tunnel. - often the light brigtness changes dramatically suddenly.

The only way I would know of rigging it to stay on permenatley brightest would be to fix the light sensor in the car somehow. I'm not sure which sensors it uses (a quick experiment would be needed, covering up the sensor on the dashboard, the front of the rearview ect.) but obviously if it shares the interior chromatic mirror sensors, you don't want to mess with them and loose the activation of the rearview mirrors...

By the way, does anyone know where the outside themomiter is? Just curious!

Wow Rick your taller than me man, thats make you a REAL tree!! LOL

Back to the gauges, I used to want to make mine be on constant bright, but i REALLY appreciate never reaching for my dimmer on road trips and stuff. also they are a little dimmer when they are really cold (think about a laptop screen if you leave it in a cold car then turn it on!)

The one thing that would scare me about putting them on constant bright would be the bulbs, (or whatever that is) burning out prematurely!

I'm 6'4" as well...and the GS definitely has more leg room than most cars out there...it is even more comfortable to drive long distance then the RX...my knees kill me after long drives in the RX.
