Another newby question...re:Navi
I looked up the map for the Navi and it is a 2000 map. The dealer wants $286. It is not a DVD Navi system. Do you guys know any way to upgrade without paying $286 bucks. Thanks, cuz I'm broke already...
W....I know that you are new here so I'll be kind
. We really are not allowed to discuss anything that may be interpretted as hacking or piracy of the Nav software etc.....or anything that may be illegal.
Just FYI.......

wulffies,
The upgrade requires the dealer to replace your current CPU Hardware with a replacement CPU containing the upgraded software you are seeking. Your current CPU is then recycled to the next customer in need of the upgrade. Thus the cost.
I have been there and done that. When I purchased my new 2000 GS400 with Nav, I was told the first upgrade would be free and follow-on upgrades would cost an increasing amount for the next two upgrades until the full price was reached. Unfortunately, the information from my first dealer was incorrect and when I tried to have my second dealer provide the free upgrade they respectfully informed me that such a deal was unavailable.
I then called Lexus of America at the 800 number and talked to the customer relations department. After explaining my disappointment and appealing to their best sense of fair play, Lexus of America agreed to authorize my second dealer to install the upgrade.
The beauty of of using the Lexus customer service system is that it's legal and that it allows you to let Lexus know how impressed you are with their product and their service. It also allows you to be on their record as a staunch supporter of Lexus and strong advocate for their much touted product service and support. Yes, I'm a diehard and liflong Lexus owner. The GS is still delivering flawless service and my wife's 2002 LS430 is a dream car.
Good luck, Jim
