Nav system updates

I have some nav system questions that my dealer could not answer. I called a second dealer, also and found it to be equally helpful. Any info is appreciated.
1. When did the nav go to DVD? My 2001 GS430 is DVD and based on the very little the dealer parts guy seemed to know, that is the first year for DVD.
2. What is the current disc for the DVD? Mine has both 1999 and a 2000 copyrights. The 2000 copyright also says it's version 1.
3. How often are the discs updated and what do they cost?

I just got my GS430 on Tuesday, fully loaded. I have the same version as you, 2000 Version 1. So I assume this is the latest update to the NAV. My car was made on 4/01 so this is what I got coming from the factory. Nav went to DVD on the 2001 MY. Prior it was HD based as I had on my old GS400. As far as updates and their prices, I haven't looked into that. I know with my 98 GS400 I received 3 free updates but only used 1 of them. I hope we receive some free updates, otherwise time to get a DVD burner and burn the NAV DVD's.
