Gs400
Hello everyone, I’m new here and excited to join the community! I recently purchased my first Lexus, a 2000 GS400. It’s white with a beige interior—not exactly my ideal color combo, but I got it for a great deal at $6,000. The car has 119,000 miles on it, and maintenance has been well-kept. I’m the fourth owner, and the timing belt, water pump, and related work were done at 115,000 miles. I also replaced the front brakes after buying it. Now, I’m looking to get a little more horsepower and a bit more kick out of it. If anyone has suggestions on the easiest ways to achieve that, I’d really appreciate your input! Thanks in advance for your help.

Intake, exhaust are the first and cheapest things you can do. If you want to spend a little there’s PPE headers and Camms made specially for the 1UZFE. Both go for about $1700. Both add approximately 30 hp/lb ft tq. Standalone ecu, I went with a haltech elite 2500. Gives you a bunch of features transmission control, launch control etc.
The best place to start, swapping the rear diff with one from a GS300, your car has a 3:23 drive ratio and a 300 has a 3:91, so it’s about a 20% lower ratio which is exactly like adding 20% more horsepower and torque, so much more power than any exhaust or intake can give you and for a lot less money. It’s a straightforward swap, and you can find a good one at most wrecking yards for about $150,
