Default GS400 Stuck In Park

So I get in my car to go to work, and the car won't shift out of park. I look inside the shift lever area and notice that there's a plastic piece blocking the shift lever stick from going to the right. So I unscrew a pen to use the ink cartridge to try to move the plastic piece, and surprisingly, it moves. So I keep playing with it and the shift lever to try to pull the shift lever to the right to pull it down to drive, and voila it's in drive. But I really need it in reverse so I try to go to reverse and hey, the same plastic piece is preventing my shift lever from pulling to the right now. So I fiddle with it again and get what I need. Temporary fix but I am NOT fiddling with this thing when I need to park in a parking lot, or parallel park on a busy road (need to shift into reverse at least once).

So I have the current idea of somehow breaking that plastic piece and saying "so long sucker!". Is this advisable, or am I going to do something I wish I hadn't. I really don't want to spend the time diagnosing and solving this issue, although I think I can do it, if I can jiffy lube it and never look back. I can't imagine a scenario where I wouldn't want my car to be able to come out of park. I mean, it has to slide to the right and then down to get to neutral, which I'm sure it can't do on its own.

Sounds like a broken shifter blind which is common. Please don't break that piece more, it could jam up the lever further.

Uhhhhh.. I actually removed my shifter blind This is what I’m talking about:

In the eBay item you shared I think it’s item No. 02 in the exploded diagram. In my photos it’s circled red. If I push it down with an ink cartridge from a pen, it moves out of the way and I can slide the lever over. The lever base/plastic that is obstructed is circled in yellow.

This is a *****. I’ve removed that whole assembly. It’s not that hard. I’m afraid you’ll need a new one unless you gut the shift lockout part.

Hopefully someone will have more experience.
